13,813 Florida Largemouth Bass were recently stocked

A total of 13,813 Florida Largemouth Bass were recently stocked into Lake Atkins (Pope County). The fish were advanced fingerlings and averaged 4.5-inches in length. AGFC stocks advanced sized fingerlings because they tend to have higher survival rates upon stocking. Lake Atkins is stocked annually with Florida Largemouth Bass in an attempt to maintain a high percentage of Florida genetics in the lake’s bass population. District 9 Fisheries staff is currently evaluating the success of this stocking strategy and will provide results in the near future.
