Checking in with a
“Popular Boater Misconception:”
The misconception is that the organizations who hold tournaments require the minimum insurance limit to protect themselves.
This is not 💯% true.
This is intended to protect you from others.
A basic pool of money to collect from for your accidental injury.
They require the limit because as a boat owner you should be responsible for your public liability to others. $300,000 (Pretty much the standard) is not going to feed your family long if you are seriously injured in a boat accident.
The organizations typically have their own protection.
We receive many calls asking for lower limits. We will not sell less than $300,000. We ask that they consider $500,000 and possibly adding an umbrella.
Please make sure you are aware of your responsibility to protect your fellow anglers on the water. If you have questions call your agent.
I hope by now everyone has an agency who is active in the fishing community. If we aren’t a fit, we refer to Stan and Ken, Tai or Bob Luellen. All solid insurance professionals.
