Fellow Anglers -

I'm a regular and fairly experienced bass angler on the delta but I will be taking my Ranger up to Lake Comanche the weekend of June 24th and it has been 20 years since I've been there! I will be staying with friends who live at the lake and want to learn how to catch 'em (bass primarily) and they'll be looking at me to do so!

Any advice on areas of the lake, depths to target, and of course lures of choice? I can do anything from drop shot (ugh) to power fishing. Is there a top water bite? Jigs?

Also, how is the health of crappie in the lake? The host has grandkids (who won't be there for our visit) but wants something easy for the times the grandkids are visiting.

Any and all advice appreciated!

Can’t help you with Camanche only fished Pardee.
Pardee is full and now spilling into Camanche, the lake will be on the rise until the run off slows.
Crappie should be finished with the spawn and located on brushy channel breaks. With wIth water rising during the spawn it can tough or very good? Probably lots of floating debris.
Swim jig in Shad colors with Kietec swimmer trailer works for both bass and crappie, good to start with.
Shade color Reapers* Split Shot rigged is always good for number and easy for kids to learn.
5” weightless wacky rigged Senko is another good choice anywhere.

Fished a club tournament there a month ago, lake level was quite low and full of unmarked hazards. Fish were shallow, caught them on shakey heads, small swimbaits and texas rigs around main lake points. Big fish of the tournament was caught on a spook early and apparently square bills were working too. My info might be a bit stale at this point... hope it helps.

The top water bite has been really good in the middle of the day with whopper plopper, and walking baits and screwballs have also been good all day long with a 2.8 Keitech Ned has been working. Also, hope this helps. Good luck Fishing.
