Not sure the rod is the deal. Finding a reel that will wench a 4 # fish out of the mats could be trouble. Curious if anyone is using a spinning combo. Bait caster combos are accurate, powerful, stout. Very interesting question.

Look at “inshore” spinning rods and reels.
St Croix has 1 piece Avid rods and Okuma offers some good light weight rods EPi-701H or 761H for example. I would suggest a size 4000 reel to match the rod and stronger drags.

Interesting ...can I ask why you would want to use a spinning rod ??? IMO it's not the right tool, like using pliers to take off a bolt..
Seems it would be very hard to pitch or even dropping in little holes ect ect...
Maybe a custom rod builder might be able to help on the special technique
Thoughts ???

Bad idea
It will be difficult to keep the line on the bale roller for hook set. You need to be fast with a solid hook set
Wrong tool for punchin in my opinion

Everyone is suggesting a bait casting combo for good reasons but if you prefer spinning and manually operate the bail it will work with practice. Select a light weight rod in the 4 1/2 oz range so the combo isn’t too heavy to handle for several hours and is well balanced.
