Does a bass reel exist that does not have a drag system? When I am frog fishing a drag is more problem than it is worth. All I do is cinch mine all the way down and then it eventually starts to slip. I release my drags after fishing but eventually the drags wear out and I have to get another reel. I would prefer a direct system with no drag but I have never heard of one.

There was no anti-reverse from what I remember so the handle would spin backwards limited by the drag tension . I belive it had a low gear ratio 5:1 but the level wind won't wind fast enough to keep braid from digging into itself on the spool . I've seen some on E-bay if you're interested so check it out .

i have the same problem. I've discovered that wonderful as they are, the shimano's seem to lose the ability to lock completely. However, my Daiwa TDX seems to lock down and stay locked down. The shimano has a smoother drag -maybe that has somehting to do with it?

just a thought but if you replaced the the regular drag washer with one made of rubber so it would grip instead of slip it might work ?

Maybe you should leave the drag cranked down after fishing on your frog rod. If it siezes up, so what. That's what you want, anyway.
