does the person running the trolling motor need a boaters card?

No, Also you can operate the vessel as long as a sober person on board has their boater card

Anyone out there take the exam yet? Looks like there are multiple different testing options. If anyone has a good or bad experience with any of them please tell us, thanks.

Five hours of my life I can never get back. I skipped most of the reading and jumped ahead to the quizzes. Not brain surgery, just time consuming.

I took the Boat U.S test. Overall it took about 2.5 hrs and it was pretty simple and straight forward plus it was free! If your going to take it the test I would do Boat U.S.

As long as there is a sober, responsible adult onboard.
