Lake Almanor Trout

(3rd try at this post) My sis & Bro in law want to try the trout fishing at Almanor. I've read that nightcrawlers or anchovie tails are the bait. Are we fishing these on the bottom or with a bobber? No down riggers on my bass boat so is this the only way to fish?

I was told years ago by a really good trout guy the best was for a biginner was to use the lightest line you can with the lightest weight, power bait on a small hook. throw it out, let it fall to the bottom. Reel it in & do it again.

Set them up with worms on a drop shot, either real or artificial.
