Trailer hitch problem

Hey, anyone out there got a fix for a trailer receiver-hitch that has too much play in it? It’s noisy and kinda loose and irritates the hell out of me when I go over any kind of bumps. Thanks.

Assuming everything is sound, I’d probably just find some type of stick on spacer or wedge to take up space.

Are you positive It’s the hitch itself and not the surge brake tongue of the trailer? Sometimes the tongue springs inside ranger trailers need to be replaced and you’ll get a loud slapping anytime you start or stop.

Thanks, yeah it’s all sound - I found something online for this issue, called a hitch clamp. $20- I’m giving it a try. Takes the play out of the receiver.

Oh yeah, I have one of those too. The harbor freight version for $11 for when I use my cab over w an extension for a bike rack. It’s been so long, I totally forgot about using that

A big bolt and the right size washers could quiet that thing down for a few $.

I suggest getting a new unit verses a Band-Aid approach to the hitch.
-Clean design featuring an integrated locking mechanism.

The hitch works as advertised, excellent quality, zero play in all axis, and is a solid hitch towing my Z520C Ranger around.
-Highly recommend this product.

Couple wraps of duct tape around the hitch and good to go. Last longer than you’d think. On the last one I actually used some “Christy” tape which is an extremely heavy duty tape used for taping gas lines and other plumbing pipes…. It’s been 2 years and I tow something probably twice a week….still good 👍🏻

On an older truck, I drilled a hole and welded a 3/4” nut on the side of the receiver and used a short bolt to tighten the hitch but didn’t feel like welding on the new pick up.
