What Happened
During the official off-limits period for the California Delta, Super 60 angler Billy Hines voluntarily contacted BAM owner Mark Lassagne to report that he had been on the Delta. Billy explained he was targeting striped bass from a different boat and did not initially consider that simply being on the off-limits water—regardless of target species or vessel—violates the rule.

Billy said “I didn’t even think about it being off-limits a buddy asked me to go going striper fishing”, then when I was on the water, I realized I was in violation and immediately called Mark Lassagne to self-report”

Rule Reminder
The off-limits period applies to any presence on designated tournament waters for any activity or species, in any boat.

Penalty
In fairness to the field and consistent with the rules, Billy Hines is ineligible to compete in the California Delta Super 60 event.
Because of this event ineligibility, he will not be eligible to qualify for the end-of-year Super 60 Championship under series criteria.

Get all the pro anglers that are fishing that tournament see if they would vote on letting Mr. Hines fish by taking a vote on letting him rules are rules but that a minor one. Gezz guys come on let him fish.

He must be getting dementia.

Billy is a stand up guy and professional and knowing Billy he believes in the rules and the fact that they need to not only be followed but enforced by the tournament organization. Hats off to Billy for this unfortunate situation that has happened.

As far as asking the competitors to let him fish I can assure you that is the last thing that Billy would ever do and would not expect an exception for his mistake. He will take this one standing up and know that nobody will ever be saying he bent the rules and got away with it..... He is not that kind of guy!

And missing the championship that is a tuff one wow.

Stand up guy for self-reporting, speaks highly of his character. Many others probably would have looked the other way after realizing they committed a violation of the rules. Two thumbs for Billy!

Maybe they can vote on the best color senko or FFS while they are at it Someone will be pissed no matter what and even worse if he were to cut a check. Good on him for owning up…. Too many gawd damn cheaters in tournaments as it is.
