Should a Sneak Pete roll on the retrieve?

Awhile back I was in the Basshole and purchased a couple of sneaky petes. Last week while at Don Pedro I was throwing it and about 20 ft from the boat I noticed it was rolling instead of gliding.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong. Using a tranx on a custom rod with 17lb test. No braid.
Thanks in Advance

My experience is limited, but you may be OVERWORKING the bait. Try slowing WAY DOWN on your retrieve. It helped me with a similar glidebait problem.

Absolutely correct, if the bait is rolling you need to slow way way down. I would also check the split ring and line tie. with glide baits i like a San Diego jam knot so that i can adjust the angle of the knot. You may also want to check the split rings on your hooks to ensure the hooks arent catching on each other. If hardware is good, then slow her down some more and see what speed gives you the best glide.

Thank You guys. I thought I was slow, buy now I'll be S L O W. Should I change out the split rings (althouh I didn't have the hooks tangle)? Also thinking of changing the hooks, what do you guys recommend?
Thanks Again

Can't really go wrong with the Owner St-36 to 56 trebles IMHO.

Believe they tell you not to but I put on split rings to get rid of that problem. Sure a loop knot of some type would work

If i use a split ring it is an owner hyperwire oval ring. i agree with JL on the owner hooks, i would rather my glide have a bit more ROF to trigger on the pause
