I am about to get another bait caster and was curious as to which one would be a better all purpose reel, one with 7:1:1, or 6.3:1

I've been thinking about getting the new 7:1 Curado for flippin/pitchin.... would be nice to rip that fish out of there in a hurry!

i do not know about this one...i could always wind it in faster but i just could never roll it slower or keep fishing slow enough....and even if i had a set up with a high speed reel, let's say for blades like KVD i don't think they always will want it that fast. so would i need two set ups then for blade fishing?

i honestly am just typing what my mind is thinking based on your question...sorry......maybe a buzzbait? i think that would be good...

I would offer... if you're looking for an "all purpose" type reel, that a 6.3:1 (depending on the actual inches per turn (IPT) of retrieve) will be more versatile than the new 7:1 reels because, as aNNieNsaLTIE stated, you might not want to always retrieve your baits so quickly.

That having been said, most of the new 7:1 reels are making use of larger gear boxes and have plenty of torque and power - something lacking in some of the 6.3:1 reels of yesterday. I have a couple of 7:1 reels that I can fish comfortably with Norman DD22's - something I just could not do without my old 5:1 cranking reels from before.

So yeah... how's that for a wishy washy answer?!

All purpose would be 6.3, or 6.3 would be closer to all purpose. 7.1 would be fast enough to be considered a specialty setup. Same for the slowest speed reels, they are more of a specialty setup than somewhere (a gear) in the middle.

7:1 for my money. I have no problem with controling lure speed and when out of what you project is the strick zone a couple cranks and you are ready to cast again
