I have a tracker 175 and I am looking to go to a motor with more that 43lbs of thrust. i want to get one that has the lightest weight. The minn kotas and big gator mount motorguides seem pretty heavy. Motor guide has a new gator flex mount 360 but I cant find a weight guide on any of this stuff and in the san jose area there are no retailers that I have found to go and look at any in person. Does anyone know what motor and mount would be the lightest. Or has anyone upgrade thier motor on a tracker, does the weight hinder the boats performance. any imput would be great. Thanks,
Tim

I have an 82lb Motorguide on my Tracker 175, and it's no problem, if you're talking about weight while motoring. It is heavy lifting it up out of the water. If you're not that strong yet, you might want to look at a trolling motor with a lift assist. I know they're out there, I just don't know who makes them.
Upgrading the trolling motor is a good decision. If you go bigger, be sure to go 24volt, or put two 12volt batteries in line (not sure what that's called) so you have enough battery power. The bigger the trolling motor, the bigger the drain on the battery.
The 24volt motors are much more energy efficient. And they have soft start. Even so, watch out when you have it on high that you point it straight before you hit the pedal. I almost threw myself out of the boat the first time I did it, because it was turned to the side.
But it's great to be able to hold position in the wind. I was at Castaic last Sunday in 50mph+ Santa Anas, and held in the wind just fine. I couldn't cast, but I could stay in one place and curse!

Jrfish-

Not to troll a post or anyting. But I have a 24v Motor Guide 55lb Great White Salt Water Series for sale. It is a bow mount "break away" all complete with lift assist.

It is variable speed on one toggle pole- and max thrust on the other. There is no reverse so you have to turn it 180 degree to get reverse.

I am asking $150 for it w/o the prop and $183.30 with the prop.

PM/Email me if you would like pictures. I am located in Oakley.
