Bass Fishing Forum - Westernbass.com

I'm thinking about heading back to Dallas in the middle of Feburary (Chinese New Year) and I would like to be able to hit one of the surrounding lakes.

Does anyone here have any suggestions for a guide? the nearest lake to where I would be staying is Lake Ray Hubbard. Anyone know what kind of conditions I should expect?

I'm gonna try googling some guides, but would like some referals from anyone who doesn't mind sharing.

I recommend taking the 1 hour drive to LAKE FORK.....it is a world class bass fishery. Without any question, the best guide on the lake is Rick Loomis. His number is 903-383-3050. I have fished with him many times, and have never been disappointed.

I just moved from Texas to California this past July. I lived in between Dallas and Ft. Worth and fished most all lakes.

If you have the time, Fork will be your best bet.

If you want to catch Sand/White bass then Hubbard and other lakes are great. But if your goal is large mouth Fork is ticket. Plus Fork has lots of good guides so all you need to do is show up.

I would definately go to Fork.
Ive used Brian Duplichane a couple of times, & will use him next time i go there.
There are many good guides on this lake.

Mornings most of the guides meet in the restaurant in Lake Fork Marina. they generally work together to make sure their clients are happy & want to return.....
Mark has the lake record, & Larry has 2nd place ( or had 2nd place if someone hasnt beaten it ).

I would have to agree that Lake Fork is THE place to visit. More fish over ten pounds have come from that lake than any other lake in Texas.

I would recommend John Tanner as a guide.

Tanner is one of the guides Kelly Jordan recommeded in a Bass West article a few years ago regarding Lake Fork.

I live in Dallas. Fork is your best bet in Feb. The other lakes around Dallas are not that great in comparison. However, Texoma could be good too, if you like smallmouth.

As far as guides on Lake fork, Connie and Killer (her husband), are well known at Lake Fork for their tackle repair service. They can give you the best advice about your choices. Plus, if you ever need your reels serviced, they are the best!

I am hearing that the water is way down in many of the texas lakes. I spoke to a buddy of mine that lives on Richland Chambers and his boat is high and dry in his boat house.

You may want to check before you go. I lived in Dallas up until 2001 and fork is the best place to go, not only for the fishing but for lodging, food and services. It's 90 minutes from dallas and caters to bass fishermen worldwide.

Keep in mind that Texas has powerplant lakes too. They are all in the East Texas area. So when its cold in the 20-35 degrees, you can hit the powerplant lakes with water temps in the 60-70s.

Thanks to all for the input. Alas, I have to stay in the Bay Area for work, so I'm gonna have to reschedule till later in the year to see the parental units. Good news is, I can schedule enough time to check out Lake fork!
