When you are fishing clear water with a Carolina Rig what is the preference LB. test for main line and leader line?

At DVL, we use 12-15lb Big Game Trilene for the main line, and 6-8lb Sunline Shooter for the leader. Works for us. Rick G.

I like using the Sunline Machine Gun Cast in 12lb test as a main line and then anywhere from 4lb - 10lb (Depends on the bite and area being fished) Sunline Shooter Fluorocarbon as a leader.

Thanks Guys, so for the weight on say a 12LB. Main line you would use a 1/2 oz weight and for 15LB. line you would use a 3/4 oz or 1oz?

1/2 oz for 20' and shallower, 3/4 and 1oz for deeper depending on the wind. Gl2-902 G-Loomis C-rig rod, Diawa Zillion 6:3-1. Perfect set-up. Rick G.

Rick knows what he's talking about. Make sure you listen and don't second guess it.

Rick, that is a telescoping rod, right? I looked on the G Loomis website and they don't offer that rod anymore, either telescoping or one piece. They only have a spining model. Am I right?

No, they don't make that anymore Bob. Good luck finding one too. They're damn near impossible to find.

Hey Bob,

I know there is one in the bottom of Castaic Lake. If you find it you can keep it. It really hurt to lose that one........ouch.

Something I have started doing this year is changing my leader out to a mono line. I use 12# flouro on my main line, but use 8# or 10# mono on my leader.

The reason I use mono on my leader is because it floats more than flouro so the bait stays up off the bottom just a little more.

Just something else to think about. Good Luck.

The closest I can find is the BCFR892 7'5" 10-20lb 1/4 - 5/8oz it has the same power and Action. May be the next best alternative, unless you want a spinner.. Which I kind of like for light line.
