any suggestions on what works best for braid? all of my cheap pliers, side cutters, dikes, etc don't work worth a crap

I'd like to get one set of strong, long nose pliers that cut braid without trouble that can also remove hooks (both fish and flesh) and straighten super line hooks

I searched past posts here and didn't come up with anything

I use lister bandage scissors that EMT's use to cut cloth. X-tools displays always show them cutting braid with ease but the bandage scissors are great for me and cost about 5.00

Get the X-tools. Those are great braid cutters and they are long needle nose I dont think you will be dissapointed. I have a leatherman the pliers dont cut it well but thats what the scissors or knife is for. I like to get the pliers (the part that cuts mono and flouro excellently) and put the bariad in there and pull. It gives you a better sinch on the knot that you wouldnt be able to do by hand. It doent allow the knot to slip. Sence I have been doing this I have never had a knot slip on me. After I tighten it with the pliers I cut it with the scissors. Just my likeings.

Ya i use bandage scissors too! they work great!!! I hated my X-Tools they went dull really fast and then broke when i was pullin a hook. I have some P-Line pliers that i like too. Shimano makes some decent pliers also!

those x-tools pliers are waay too pricey with too much plastic for my taste

great tip on the bandage cutters - and I'll use it as a backup plan, but I'm really after a one tool solution where the pliers cut braid well

If you want some good scissors that cut briad get the Rapala pliers. I have been using the same pair for two years and they still cut braid very well. You can cut mono on the front end and the lower part of the blade you can cut braid.

I have friends ask me for them all the time. They are inexpesnsive too. I didn't like the XTools and they are pricey. I gave them away.

I got a pair of craft sissors out of the dollar store. They have a serrated edge on them. They have worked great for years, and I'm sure you guessed the price.

Walmart Titanium scissors in the sewing department. There about 5.99 or so and work great.

Fiskars for about two bucks at a sewing store. The same scissors are marketed as "Braid" scissors. They were less than two bucks. I managed a bunch in funky colors like hot pink for a buck a pair in some sale. Ended up with a lifetime supply, and gave many pairs away to buddies during the braid boom.

If you are shopping for braid cutting tools, take some of your line with you to test it.

Scissors do better than anything else with the shearing effect. Things that mash like toenail clippers, dykes, etc have a much more difficult time.

so other than the Rapala pliers everything else has been scissors - hate carrying extra stuff as a backseater, the more stuff that one piece of equip can do the more value it has to me

The ones I'm talking about are scissors. I have the pliers too. I have both pliers and scissors on my boat at all times.

Just a quick word.

I have friends that are sponsored by Power Pro and the scissors they use are the ones by Rapala.

How do I know? Cuz when they come to my house that's one of the things they take if I have them. I just ordered two more.

I keep a pair of cheap ($2-$3) kids school scissors in my boat. I do not use a ton of braid, but they seem to be holding up pretty good.

I'm with you, I wish one tool would handle it all, but they don't. There is a time for needle nose pliers, a time for diagonal cutters and a time for sissors. You really need all three.

Bass pro has a good little sissor for 2.99 that cuts braid, fiber guards, trims skirts and for that price I can have 3 pairs to keep in handy spots.

I am with Jason on this one,X-Tools are the best for that job.And at $9.99 or the price of a decent lure I don't think that is to much.And they float.Beats buying a new pair of pliers each time you drop them in the water or go flying off the back of the boat or whatever.Just my thoughts.GB..jim

I use Chanel lock brand Dikes, They cut everything.

I haven't found pliers that will cut braid cleanly. The jaws in pliers cut by pinching, while scissors cut by shearing as they pass each other.
I have needle nose Shimano pliers on my front deck.
I also have Crescent 8" diagonal pliars that do cut braid, but I have to pull on it after I pinch down with them. Plus they will cut any hook, if necessary.
I use toenail clippers instead of scissors for cutting line, both flouro/mono and braid. They're cheap, so when I put too many nicks in the jaws, I just buy a new pair. I have a lot more control with clippers, so I don't accidently cut the main line as often.
I have a pair on deck, and another in my pocket. Small, light, sharp.

OWNER MAKES A PAIR OF BRAID SCISSORS THEY WORK GREAT HAVE HAD THEM FOR A WHILE AND THEY STILL WORK GREAT
