Legend Boats

First time I have been in a Legend boat was today, and I'm going to tell you guys that I'm sold. I've been a Triton and Ranger lover for sometime now, but what Legend has put together is very nice. I was on 195 LE and it seemed faster then my buddies 19 foot Ranger, and more stable. Very nice job done by Legend boats.

Most boats of similar length are gonna be faster than a Ranger. They're very nice boats, but not known for speed. Doesn't make Legend a better boat. Someone posted a while back that Legends have the highest rate of warranty claims in the industry. If it's true, probably not a good sign for a new company trying to make it.

Legend Boats Statement of Facts

Statement of Facts

There is absolutely NO TRUTH about Legend Boats having the most warranty claims in the industry. As a matter of fact Legend boats have about the lowest in the industry.

Legend Boats just celebrated its 5-year anniversary and according to Mercury Marine, it is the fastest growing boat builder in the industry. Legend Boats is here to stay.

To give you an example of the quality of Legend Boats, they are the only bass boat builder in the industry that has gel coat finished motor boxes and wiring that is as clean as a show car.

I have ran them all .. They are all good boats, Ranger, Basscat, Skeeter, Triton, Champs.

Chev's, Fords, Dodges... Choice is what makes this world go around..

There is a seat for every butt!!

I have a buddy that has a new Cat.. He has had his share of problems .. oil buzzer, throwing prop blades, live well pumps and a couple t motor issuses mostly, down time in the shop was the big issuse with this dealer, (not mossdale as I have no experence with this dealer) ..It was weeks turn around time ... not good service!

The best ones are the ones that don't break down of course, and most break downs are of the boat components .. i.e. motors, t motor, pumps, switches, valves, ect..and the boat makers take the blunt of these warranty claims even though they don't make the product or parts that fail.

How often to you hear of a hull breaking down.. ?

We all know things are going to break, the question is when and how bad.. What is high on my list is how they, the dealer and factory respond to my needs when this happens. This has to be a major factor when buying a product, any product

What makes a boat ride well, is the hull design, and how the boat is put together.. and balanced for the ride. How we load our boats comes into play here also.

Bass fishermen are tackle whores to no end .. har har har !!

But after spending the day running Tony's boat in the Pro teen yesterday.. I must say I was very impressed with this ride.. I think they are a boat that will be around for a long time !

If I was to get back in to this great sport of bassfishing... I know I would be looking at a Legend!

Ps... Frank this is the way it should be...his quote

Yes I have been in a Bass Cat once before and was not that impressed. Not that it was a bad experience just nothing impressed me like the Legend did. Like I said I have primarily been a Triton and Ranger guy but now that I have been in a Legend I think this will be my first new boat purchase. If any of you Bass Cat guys would like to try and change my decision please feel free to PM me LOL…..

I recently test drove a Legend Alpha 199/225 Optimax and was very impressed. It is the boat that I'm shooting for, great ride and very good build quality.

Jim Payne of Stay N Charge - has told me several times and I am sure will gladly say so on this forum if he is asked .. Legend has the cleanest and best wiring of any boat he has been in. And he's been in all of them!

Just test drive all the boats you can... The Legend will sell itself, or it won't but, you need to test drive them before you can tell if its the right boat for you. Either way, Legend is here to stay and getting bigger, stronger and more in demand everyday!

As for the number of factory warranty requests... that is ridiculous. Sure there have been a few, as with any boat... No boat has ever Delaminated as was told by someone on the other thread... One boat was ran into the rocks and because it was an FLW guy they patched it just to get him on the water for the event.... that patch came apart. Other than that, there has been few issues with the hulls and design of these boats. In fact, a motor broke on one of the boats and the boat held up, as other boats in the same situation (I'll leave the brands out of it) came apart because of the same type of motor issue.

Tom,

You can say thay have not delaminated all you want but like I said before. I Personally towed a Guy in With 3 splits (along the Keel and folded). This was his second hull problem and he is a Texas Pro staffer. His room mate was driving a Factory demo because his was also getting transom repairs. That is the truth, and like I said the first time. I have no peronal problem with Legend their a nice boat. But there definatly not as great as you make them out to be.

Here ya go....

Hey bigbass,

Obviously Tom has had a great experience with his boat.

I don't know what caused the problem you talk about with the Texas pro staffer but one incident is not a tell tale sign of anything and I can tell you stories about problems that have happened with just about any boat manufacturer's product out there. As my friend Rick Grover just posted in another thread anything built by hand can have a bad apple squeeze through the process. Stuff happens and sometimes boat owners do things to make stuff happen as well. If you're rough on your boats then even a great product can suffer as a result.

I used to have folks tell me they'd never own a Mercury because they brake down more then other brands and I'd always point out to them that they likely should because at the time there were many more Mercurys on the water then other brands. I have no doubt in mind that Merc builds a great motor regardless. I've personally run Johnsons, Yamahas and Mercurys and they all make a great motor as I'm positive Evinrude does also. Sure they have a problem from time to time. as do Fords, Chevys, Dodges and Toyotas. Build a product and sooner or later someone will have something go wrong with it but many others won't and you see it's never the guys that are running great for years with theirs boats and motors that you hear from, it's the occasional problem that you hear about.

Legend IS making a great boat. There's no doubt about it and they are worthy of consideration when making a new boat purchase.

That said I can tell you with 100% assuredness that Ranger, Champion, BassCat, Triton, Skeeter, Stratos, Nitro and so on are all making fantastic boats. Should you find yourself in the bass boat market you have a great many, really great options.

And out West we're fortunate to have some of the best dealers in the country right here to take care of our needs so if you're in the bass boat market and want to step up to a new boat, you have all the best options.

If you're looking to test drive a Legend then all you need do is contact Frank Lozano of Inland Marine or drop Tom or I a line and we'll arrange to hook you up.

If you're looking to test a boat, regardless of manufacture, drop me a line and I'll let you know how to do it. Dealers and the pro staff guys are ready and waiting to help you out and we all have obvious bias' towards what boats we're running because we truly are all running great boats.

Our site sponsoring dealers are amongst the best in the world and if you like this site its a big help to us if you check them out first before making your final purchase. They also offer awesome service as well and that equally important.

Here's a list of current sponsoring dealers to help anyone get started:

Anglers Marine in Anaheim and San Diego sell Ranger, Champion, Stratos, Nitro and Tracker
C&C Marine in Modesto and Citrus Heights sells Ranger and Stratos
Galaxie Marine in Newcastle sells Skeeter, Triton and Duckworth
Gone Fishin Marine in Dixon sells Nitro, Tracker and Lund
Nixons Marine in Walla Walla sells Skeeter, Triton and Bullet
Inland Marine in Antioch sell Legend

And that boat you towed in was an borrowed tournament boat on the Detroit River/Lake Erie... It was the EXACT boat that was repaired as I mentioned in my post. I got that information directly from Jamie Cyphers at Legend.

Hey sTony - what a great post!

I have said it 20 times at least in the last few weeks.. Test drive as many boats as you can.

With all the pro-staffers out there for all these companies... If I were in the market for a boat here is what I would do.

Pick a day... a weekend or early evening hours during the summer in a very popular spot.. Like Russo's Marina or Clear Lake. I would do it late in the day regardless of the day of week, just to be sure there was some rough water.

then I would ask every boat manufacturer to hook me up with a pro-staffer to take me out for a 5 minute ride from that spot, give me a 5 minute spiel on what they like about the boat and the company. I would also ask to drive the boat myself for 5 minutes, since some people don't know how to drive! :)

Ride in as many boats as people will allow you to. Then judge for yourself. As anyone who spends time on this site knows.. we all have our favorites and don't mind yacking about 'em... but, it is just that yack yack yack... until you ride in the boat. So I'll say it again - ride in as many as you can before you spend $30+ thousand dollars on a boat!!!

We encourage you to test drive everything out there. We dont see the other guys encouraging you to drive a Legend. I wonder why that is?
I suspect that it is because they dont have the confidence that we Legend owners have in the boats that we drive.
Each person of course may have special preferances that would cause you to select one brand over another.
I have mixed emotions about encouraging people to buy Legend boats. Its kind of like not telling people about your favorite fishing spots or the bait that is catching a ton of fish. Im already having enough trouble competing without giving up the one advantage that I have

I am from monroe michigan, home of the detroit river, lake erie. Do you know how hard it is to find insurance for a bass boat to go on that lake. It does not matter what boat you have on erie, i have seen rangers, and my best friends skeeter break on that lake, and also, my other friend well he broke 6 rangers on erie. My point is on erie it does not matter what boat brand your in, there all terriable to drive and ride rough in 6 and 7 foot rollers. I am a skeeter guy, but those legends and all of the bass boats are nice, you just need to learn how to drive them.

Hey Phua.... Anytime you wanna race in big water.. I am game! Lake Mead -- For the lake Mead Classic.. Me vs. You.. Calville to Temple Bar and Back at 3:00 PM... I know my boat and more importantly my BACK will make it... how about you?

Wait wait wait - first let me get some insurance on your spinal cord... then lets go! and you better double strap those rods on your deck down! Don't get me on a Ranger kick again.. I can go on for days!

I am not defending - I am just saying drive one! then you decide and putting falsities to rest.

Mike I know I just thought it was funny. I once fished out of a Tahiti with a blown 460 Ford in it.. Came in 2nd.. Long time ago.. I thought I would buy a 45 ft fountain and put a trolling motor on it.. It would take the waves for sure.. Just kidding.. Was actually looking at Houseboats today, any suggestions on those?

Phua be nice.... :D ya know i love this stuff, seeing Legend at the top of the board...... great news, i should pay J. L. (top H20) and bigbass111 for tryin to slam the new kids....... gettin us all this free press :o

For the record Big Bass how do you know all this stuff about warrenty claims? If you have those statistics please send them to me, and every other manufacturer, as we would all like to see them. And know how YOU got your hands on them and we cant.

And about all this hull delamination? Please explain hull delamination to us. I know what it is! I also know we have had one boat in 5 years delaminate, and it was a test boat with a new resin we were trying. Just curious if you know what it is?

Sorry, i love about every bass boat out there and would be proud own about any of them. I usually don't get involved in these conversations, But i couldnt resist jumping in here with the Legend Law firm

The boat in question hit a wing dam on the Red River at over 70 miles an hour. The boat was still useable so we patched it to get now FLW Tour Pro Craig Dowling back on tour. The patch eventually failed in 5 footers and we did rehull the boat for him and HIS insurance paid for it. On Ben Matsubu's boat we made a mistake in the Engine box not the transom and we did fix it, as it was our fault, and we did loan him a boat to use, just like we would with any other customer where applicable.

That the story!! And no i am not acting as a rep today, i am off.... i just miss all you guys, especially Phua...... See ya at the OPEN i hope.....

Phua.. any boat with you in it.. I can catch. I said 50 lbs... might be more like 75... by the way - I love the new Auto Trader tent, how many does it sleep? 4? 6? 8? :)

That's why they call you Pineapple! Round on the bottom... skinny head and that spiked do you were sporting on Havasu.

Now that the Delamination issue is put to rest... I'd love to hear the description of delamination from anyone other than Grover or Jaime... I think that is a well overused term!

I'm going to make you autograph my weigh slip.... with a "You kicked my A$T@% - Mike "Pineapple" Phua" so I can frame it for my office wall!

Beware though - I am bringing a secret weapon with me this year - Alex Rupert - I hear he knows a thing or two about that lake and can catch em with the best of you!

Your only hope was to win the boat race because I got lost or something... but, with no race you better just stay home and save your money for the open..... or another overpriced Ranger!

Come on up to Clear Lake - we can take the Legend through the narrows and still enjoy a cold Mtn. Dew on the way!

Last 3 weeks on Clear lake Stack up like this for me..

Date Lake Organization Finish Weight Check/NoCheck

7/15/07 Clear Lake Angler's Choice 9th 23.43 $
7/8/07 Clear Lake ABA 6th 22.67 $
7/7/07 Clear Lake Angler's Choice 1st 27.77 $
6/23/07 Clear Lake Angler's Choice 3rd 25.92 $

With 3 different partners - 2 of which have fished for bass less than 5 times total!

However, I'm still just a newbie trying to figure those fish out! Give me another couple years!
