Thought about taking my 6 year old out for a fun day on the water. Though pineflat would be a good start. Any idea where to start and what to use? As some of you know 6 year olds dont have a lot of patients and i want him to enjoy the time on the water. Any advice would be appriciated.

Last Sunday, I took my 7 year old Grandson and his Dad there for their 1st ride in my new boat and some fishing. He really enjoyed the ride but the fishing was just plain tough. Our club fished it sat & Sun and it remained tough.
He never hooked one by himself but got to reel two in once they were hooked which was a first for him. I was worried about the low water conditions at Eastman and Hensley, otherwise I would have gone there. Next time, I will take him to one of those or maybe Shaver for lots and lots of small smallies. Oh, yea, and live bait.

I have a 4 and 8 year old. Eastman would be my first choice. My kids usually get lots of bites with a drop shot or wacky senko. I was at Pine Flat a couple of weeks ago and the bass are out of sorts with falling water and lots of suspended bait. A buddy of mine actually did better catching suspended bass while trolling a shad Rapala 20 ft. down over deep water while trolling for trout. Check the water level and water conditions and try Eastman. Even if conditions aren't great, it is probably your best bet close by.
See ya,
Mike

Last
June -- The winner of the 11-14 yo that won Jr. State (and went to Nationals and placed 4th for his age group last August 5th

)
He cought his with a 4" wacky rigged Senko in 30+ feet of water.
Prefishing- My oldest and I cought quite a few on dropshot rainbow Robo's - 4", "small" hook - with a long shank just hooked through the lip... But not one was a keeper from shore to 15'-18' of water.
Some on Jigs with a single yamo trailor both in watermellon - one "good one" on a Vixen top water bait. -- and a couple of small ones on 1/4oz spoons from the off-shore rock islands.
........ But again- That was last June........

If you're not heading out until the weekend, check the fishing reports on fresnobee.com on Wednesday and see where the bass bite is good. Like Morgan said, Pine Flat is tough as nails right now. But, a buddy was saying that he watched some guys using live crawdads doing pretty good. I would think you'd be better off going to Hensley or Eastman though. Good luck.
