We launched out of Orwood around 1640 to fish in Disco consentrating on the Stripers. We fished till my wife wanted us back home by 2100 at the latest. It was a beautiful night out and we cought some 16 Stripes on boils topwater with only one going mabey #12 and the rest as shakers.

Heading back to the ramp -- At the 5mph area that T's Indian towards Orwood -- some Yahoos on the levee started shining their flashlight blinding me and screaming in some other native tounge.

I was in the middle of this channel that is 50 yards across to begin with........ And it looks like I took a line into my prop ~ "WTH -- You think I want your crap in my prop" I yell back at them -- and they continue yelling at us not in english and started chucking rocks.

If they want to fish the other side of the channel............ Get a raft off of Craigslist or the flea market !!


I seriously was expecting them to start shooting at us........... And I would of shot back -- I was ready to protect my family.


What a way to ruin a perfect outing with the family...........

Anyone else encounter these types of yahoo's ? and gotten into a verbal confrontation at night ??

Part of doing business on the delta at night, Dan...Me and my shad buddies could write a book on what happens on the delta when the sun goes down...Try running up to Sugar Cut and leaving there at say 12 midnight...We had to cut gill nets out of our props from the guys laying nets across the river...

We got rocked in Grant Line one night when Gary ran right through all their lines and plastic bottles with hooks...Then coming back in from Sugar one night, I'm third boat back heading in and I look at a guy standing near a bank campfire flinging a rock with his slingshot towards the two other boats with me...

Another tip, never run at high speed under bridges at night...Slow down to a crawl and hit your light under the bridge and look for lines and things hanging down from it...Be leary around campfires on a bank...I know where that happened to you, those are probably workers that live on and work the fields on Orwood Tract...Best not to get into a confrontation at night...Seems everyone we've encountered are packing...It just aint worth it...

Yhea- It was a heart racing- adrenaline pushing - Tense moment out there .... Especially when they are blinding you with the lights and rocks are splashing in the water 5' from you before I had to break the5 mph law and scoot !!



I was expecting them to show up at the ramp and I was more than ready. Kris had my cell and the boys in one place and I had my protection with me to get the truck and trailor it.


Nothing happened thankfully and we went home with the boys asking questions. I kept it on a possotive note on how much fun we had last night -- But it still blows -- 13 hours later.


Thanks for the tips Shad -- I plan on spooning those bridges soon at nightfall as well as durring the day.

I'm glad everything worked out for you. If you haven't pulled your prop off yet, I would just to make sure there isn't any line wrapped around the prop shaft. The line could tear into your lower unit seals and cause a leak.

Worst areas are the shallow places because lines from the bank don't sink far enough for the boater to avoid. It the bank fishing mentality all over again. I did that long time ago. When you're on the bank, you fish as far as you can cast. When you're on the boat, you learn fish relate to structure that is not always in the middle of the river. Fishing five feet away from the weedline is just as good assuming your on a flat. Stripers like flats and areas with bait. These guys don't need to be fishing out in the middle of traffic.

What can you do when you come across these guys? If the slough is 50 yards wide and someone has 45 yard out. There is no choice but to go right through--5 yards is just not safe to go through. However you guys need to be careful! Its possible to catch a hook on your body if you drive through.

I'm thinking about bringing a gun next time I'm out night fishing in the Delta. Some bank fisherman are armed. Heck one time we were fishing at a secluded location and two guys pull up. They started testing assault rifles. Rounds were fired into the water. Makes you think twice about fishing at night.
