What is the best handheld gps I need help please any info would be great.

I’ve got the Lowrance H2o in color and it’s a pretty sweet unit. Back when I was looking this was recommended by most from this forum.

+1. I just got the non-color version for 100$ on ebay. Very good handheld.

I have the Garmin eTrax color and I love it. I only use it for land based applications so I can''t give you on the water feedback.

Have the Garmin E-trek Vista B/W screen and run Mapsource Toppo on it along with some other program for city maps.


I forgot how to use it already for the advanced functions -- but it does show the basic water of the delta preaty good with the added software-- and fairly easy to mark/save spots and waypoints then back download onto your PC for a back-up.


There is alot more that it can do that is beyond me -- but if you are considering one- Look up a GPS Forum and the members there that post coupons and even more importantly ~~ On-Line Ad "Missprints"" like SportMart, REI and other on-line shops have to save $100 or better off of.......... They are WATCHDOGS about that stuff !!


I got mine 3 years ago on-line from Staples for $129 when it was to of been $329. They honored it no problem -- But what is in stock once the word get out goes FAST before they get ahold of IT to make it correct !!

I like the Lowrance iFinders. Take a look at the H2O for fishing. Color is nice but not necessary ($$). The Lowrance units have one of the largest screens and the highest resolutions, plus there are many map chips available that are interchangeable with any of the Lowrance units that are on the boats. Plus you will not find any problems getting outside help with any operation or technical questions you might have.

Just bought a Magellan Triton 2000. $439 is a bit pricey, but...

Touchscreen GPS, plus 2 mp digicam, voice recorder -you can take pics & record comments for your waypoints.

Plus, compass, barometer, plays mp3's, compatible with Nat. Geographic maps.

Yeah, I went for the bells, whistles.

I was reading up on the Lowrance Ifinder H20 and read a review claiming accuracy within 10 meters. I was wondering if you fellow fishermen found this to be true? Also did you purchase the software package with your units?

I too, have the ifinder h2o.....it is great, especially if you sell your boat....you can take your gps with you and not give away all your hot spots if you forget to delete them all.....

I'd be willing to bet that nearly everyone likes the first one they bought and invested a lot of time in studying the manuals Kind of like computers - Mac versus PC

I HAVE A GOOD USED MAGELLAN YOU CAN HAVE FOR $ 100 WORKS GREAT ON 2 AA BATTERIES...............I JUST DO NOT NEED IT ANYMORE ..WITH MY LOWRANCE IN BOAT AND TOM.TOM IN CAR !!
