Broke the fuel latch on my 96 Ranger 492 and ordered the replacement. Sounds like I need to replace more then just the lid, it comes as a kit. Anyone ever done this? What problems can I expect while replaceing it?

I'm thinking it probably comes out of the deck cap with the hoses attached behind. Just undo the clamps and connect the new latch.

I am going to tell you guys, after replacing one on my old Ranger. The part that was a bear to get to, was reaching up, under and around the hull to get that hose back onto the cap body end. Very little room and getting up and into that area was one pain in the butt. But it can be done, just think kind thoughts as you are doing so. Bill K

Sounds like it might be better to take hose off at the tank and slide it out with the filler neck on??

After receiving the wrong gas cap twice and being told the one on my boat was discontinued. I tried to see if there was enough play in the house to swap it out with the new model made by perko. Mine is Attwood. The only way to replace the whole thing was to remove the seat and hose from the tank. Been there done that, didn't want to again. Found mine to be attwood and called them directly they sent me 2 samples at no charge to replace mine. Awesome service. If you have this gas cap like mine your in luck.

remove the 4 screws gas cap come off. Screw new gas cap on. DONE. I hope you guys have this same model, if not your more then likely going to have to remove the hose from the tank.
