In what conditions would you put down the hudd and toss a BBZ or Kong?

I would use the bbz to hold up the picture of the bass I caught on a hudd or tripple trout. Or I would throw it to just get it out of my boat. They catch fish, but the 1st 3 I caught on a BBZ bled out ripped the gills to heck.

I wouldn't. I'd pick up a real hardbait.

I have found that the BBZ is good for locating fish. Whenever I fish the BBZ, I be sure to have a wacky rigged senko or some sort of plastic tied on so when I get a follower that doesn't bite, I can have something else to shove in it's face. I've had plenty of fish by doing this.

At night or in real muddy water the BBZ might be a better option.

I've never caught one on my BBZ floater..... but to be fair I haven't thrown it much either...

I ahve caught fish on the BBZ. It works.

really low light, 6 footers, dingy water color, topwater.

A lot of wake type baits produce followers. For me anyways. Two things you can do:
1. Change the cadence
2. Toss a change-up bait. Senkos are good for this, so are the new 10" Twitch baits.

The BBZ-1 is like any other bait in the box; a tool. It has its time and place. I would throw it over the Hudd if I'm fishing behind two or more other anglers throwing the Hudd, and vice-versa.

To answer the original question.
Throw the floater anytime you would normally throw topwater, but you want a bigger bite.
Throw the slow sink anytime you would normally throw a jerkbait, but you want a bigger bite.
Throw the fast sink anytime you would normally slow roll, or crank, but you want a bigger bite.

wccjanel - I acutally have 90% of my followers on the slow sink, but thanks for the info, i'll definately be keeping that in-mind

The TTT does it better but the BBZ will do it to. Next time you get a follower, just slow sweep the rod and dead stick it. See what happens. And dont say I didnt warn ya.....

The floater has been an excellent bait for me when they want a bait on top with much better results in dead calm rather than wind. Best action I've had is on the dead stick on points or ridges but quite a bit on a VERY SLOW retrieve with some pauses too. If I get a looker (or swirl) on the dead stick I'll barely twitch it once (and I mean barely), they usually crush it. On the slow wind (really really slow) with a follower I'll kill it. If she doesn't crush it I'll give it a real quick turn or two on the handle and kill it again. It's been really good to me, and durable as heck. I've never had a problem tearing up (injuring) fish with it. p.s. my daughter loves this bait!
