I'm planning on taking some time off in late April. I plan on fishing Don Pedro, New Melones and possible Camanche. I've fished both Don Pedro and Melones but have never fished Camanche. I was looking at previous reports. What is the thought on Camanche? Or is there a better lake to try in the area.

Thanks guys.

Camanche is fairly unique in that you can find all sorts of island tops way out in the middle of the lake. They can be very good to fish......if you can find them. Couple of the old timers in our club can shut down right on top of em and stick fish all day at times.PRICEY. For other lakes in the area, Amador seems to have decent population of big fish due to the heavy duty trout planting. Plus it's only a four hundred acre lake so chances can be great to get on some good fish. PRICEY. For a cheapy, Hogan can be very good around April. If you can, I would suggest a full day trip to each lake. You are very likely to find your own favorite. If I had to pick one myself, I would have to say Amador, just because of it's small size. If price is a factor, go try Hogan and you could just find yourself a favorite in it. Whatever you decide, best of luck. cya

It really depends on what you're after. If you're looking for bleeding thumbs, Melones or McClure is the place to be (outside of Oroville or Shasta that is). If you're looking for quality, try Clear Lake or the Delta ... Don Pedro is another lake that can kick out double digit fish as well. Camanche and Pardee are also contenders ... Pardee has tremendous smallmouth fishery at that time of year.

With all this rain Comanche should be awesome in April..Thia is a fun lake to fish. It is an East Bay Mud lake and they may not let you launch a boat registered form SoCal becuase of the Mussel crisis.

Thanks for the info guys. I saw that Camanche is one of those lakes that won't let me on cuz I'm from So Ca.

I haven't fished anything of those lakes in about 7 years so it will be nice to get up there and do some fishing.
