I watched as Nunyo took on the elements at Casitas with two left handed gloves( I had two right handed my bad) anyway his feet were wet from sneakers and pretty wet overall....I told him raingear is a must ( life jacket too! ) ...My vote goes to Frogg Toggs. I have a good 2 piece Sterns set that I got in the Cabelas bargin basement but still feel that for the money that Frogg Toggs would get my vote for the most usable features per buck! Anyone got some other product that John might look into.

Before I purchased my raingear I read all the post on WB. I went with the Cabalas Guideware uninsulated Gore-Tex. The uninsulated will allow you to layer up. I also read about SealSkinz socks. I had allot to think about during the HBC as I was observing and dealing with the elements, as they came across my mind quite a few times . The only thing that was bothersome were my hands and keeping them dry and my feet were cold but dry. I’ve had the rain gear for 2 years now and I have no complaints. You can’t put a price on comfort.

Get some kind of goretex gear. The frogg toggs are good and reasonably priced but you get what you pay for. I have the pro qualifier goretex parka and mustang bibs. The parka is 199.00 bucks but I got em on ebay for 100.00 best investment I've made in recent years. Mustang bibs are insulated with floatation material and real warm. You can find some good deals on ebay. Worth every penny. goretex lasts a long time so they say

For general wear I have the Frogg Toggs (that is what I wore at the HBC) and for Extreme weather I have the BPS 100 MPH gear......I rarely wear the 100 MPH....I use the Frogg Toggs for fishing and hunting.........works great....

Not sure how you classify "reasonably-priced", but for my experiences at Shasta and the HBC I'm really, REALLY happy with my BPS 100MPH rain gear, Under Armor, and my Redhead waterproof boots with GoreTex lining. To me, that was money very well-spent. I froze my butt off last Winter, and decided at that time "no more" and got my gear several months back.

I have one word for you-GUIDEWEAR.

I have never been wet wearing the stuff in the snow and blowing rain.

THIS IS THE BEST STUFF ON THE MARKET. PERIOD.

I use Pro Qualifier Parka and Bibs, with a zip-in jacket for the wind. I use the zip-in jacket on a daily basis. Great for when it's not quite cold enough for a jacket normally but need one for the boat ride.

I have a Stearns suit. Bibs and Jacket. Its a sweet set up. I was out at DVL yesterday and it was brutal conditions but we fished all day and i was dry and warm..great bite yesterday too.

Frog Toggs work so well and can be folded into a very small bag.
and because they are cheap I keep a set in my golf bag and a set in my boat locker all the time.

But for really bad weather I go with my Cabelas Gore-tex that I purchased in 1990 (before they had Guide Wear). Cost $300 then but look, 18 years and they still work great.

So if you can afford it, buy them both, if you can't the best value over the long haul is Guide Wear Gore-tex

Cabela Guide wear uninsulated you can layer accordingly.

For boots I use Sorels Caribou. Nothing worse than have wet and cold feet.

I second what Ricky and DP said, GUIDEWEAR. I dont care where you go or what trail you fish, look around and tell me what you see 98 percent of what anglers wear, its Cabelas Guidewear uninsulated. That should speak for itself.

--Layer up with either Underarmor Coldwear or Hot Chillies as your base layer.
-- When wearing wool socks make sure you have a wicking sock or wool socks that have a wicking element to them.
-- When picking a boot make sure you try them on with all the socks you intend to wear. Make sure you can wiggle your toes. This is important because it allows the airspace within the boot to become heated by your body heat. If your boots are to tight your blood will not flow freeley and as a result your feet will feel cold even though there dry.
-- Try to avoid cotton (sweats), cotton absorbs water but doesent retain heat, stay with Fleese (sp), its lighter and warmer when wet.

DO NOT wear Sealskins. They dont alow your hands or feet to breath therefore they feel cold but they will stay dry.

Cabelas Guide Wear. My buddy had Toggs on this past weekend and he was a wet puppy. I was dry as a bone.

Glad or Hefty trash bags workfine for me.

pro qualifier bib and a great water proof jacket it got at Burlington that was marked down I got it at $30 normally $100

I was dry as heck the only thing I forgot were my boots at the HBC...DAM!!!, wet feet suck, gator told me about theses boots he got and next week I will get a pair.

I will be investing in some under armor...too many good things I hear about them

what ever it is don't skimp out..guidewear, 100mph wear, don't skimp especially on your choice of footwear, wet, cold feet suck!!

i just go naked , then you don't worry about how wet you are. 100mph gear keeps me dry though and gortex irish setters sheep herder boots keep my feet warm and dry. man don't cheat yourself with frog toggs. you sweat when your casting and retrieving all day you need something that breathes still almost any gortex suit will work . my #1 thing to look for in a parka is make sure they have the cuff that doesn't let water drip down your arm. just on your chin

Didnt you get the handout, Windex is also used for waterproofing.

I was shopping for rainwear and Lance was a vertual encylopedia of knowledge. After his extensive research, as he said, he thought Cabelas Uninsolated Guidewear was the best. Well, since they do make it in size "huge", I got a set, and I'll tell you it was the best investment I've made in a long time. Fishing in hail at Shasta was comfortable, no worries, and worth every dime. Not exactly reasonably priced, but worth twice the price.
