After the blank at the Nut Case Winter Classic I thought there would be time for 1 more chance to catch a good fish. So I stopped at Pedro on the way home for the last hour of light. Then I decided to stay after dark a bit. I started to work the dam after dark and had a huge explosion.... and I set the hook Hard! It was the only hit all day. Then I see............WHAT THE #%^@!!!!!!! NO #@#^*& Way!!! Boys I have just hooked up with an OTTER.... on my 3:16 Real Deal! WTF!!! I watched this thing roll over and over for about 20 min. Then it took off down the dam. It stopped to roll some more in the corner then took off again around the point and into Blue oaks. I chased it and then it went away. Then it popped up again 75 yards away again and rolled some more. I went over where it was and it was gone. That was the last I saw of it. The thing hit my REAL DEAL!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WOW that's all I can say LOL!!!!!
If anyone finds my bait please let me know (yea right) LOL!! Also if there is an Otter out there with my Real Deal on it's face please help it if you can. Then give my bait back LOL!!!
Just thought I would share that the Otter thought it was the Real Deal too LOL!! Can ya believe that crap!
There was nothing I could do
PS. When you do bad at one lake don't stop to make it worse at another lake on the way home
Don.

Here I was thinking in the other thread that you had to stop off after all those fine eats ..... only to find out that the Pedro Rangers had locked up all the outhouses for the evening.
Still- It sucks to be you either way today .....
Seriously -- Alot of people had a great pleasure in meeting and talking with you today Bro !! Cheers !!

Man what a story..How long did you have line still attatched to your lure..I guess it would have taken 159 pound braid to have landed that sucker..Then what the hades would you have done with it..I guess that says a lot for the natural look of the bait, or it says the otter was half blind and starving..
Great meeting you at the classic, hope to get to fish with you one of these days..

I was wadding at Clear lake a few years back and one tried to swim between my leds, I hit it in the head with me jig rod, I just found out last week end that they eat ducks, a lady that runs the mobil home park next to Tackle it in Lake port says she has seen Otters take ducks right in front of her and they eat them on her dock, I walked to the end of her dock and there was parts of birds wings on her dock and otter poop with bird bones and feathers in it and some otter poop with crawfish shells and pinchers in it, I am now a otter poop expert. Yes I am always digging up crap:) My buddy hooked a comeran bird (don't know how to spell it) it ate a minnow, I tried to take the hook out and release it (I have done this with many birds over the years and never been hurt even after being bit by them but I have never release a comeran before, this thing almost took my finger off, I blead like a stuck big and it took 3 weeks for my finger to heal. What's the moral to my story you say? If a comeran can almost take my finger off what do you thing a otter can do that eats ducks? cut your line and wish it luck! At least you have a good story to tell!!

You gonna change your handle to Otter'nDon..I was going to through in the World Famous otter catcher, but I know you don't want the noteriety..Man, I don't know what I would have done under the same situation..I really don't think I would have tried to chase the critter down, that is unless I was properly armed..

Awwww...I hear if you pull the otter into the boat they actually quiet right down, hold perfectly still while you remove the hook, and then lick your face to say thank you.

I had one rear up behind a spook on the delta one time and lunge at it. It was within inches of my bait when I was able to yank it towards the boat. I have also seen one chase, catch and drag a 4 pound bass onto the shore at Clear lake.
Maybe we all need to carry shot guns on our boats when ever were wake bait fishing.
