Just wondering, could there be a trout farm or even someone in their back yard raising an already large bass to world record size, who then plans on throwing it in their livewell, going to a lake and passing it off as a catch? I mean i know it would take a long time but its been a long time. I'm just affraid of the next world record being manufactured but how could it be proven otherwise?

I would think they could check DNA. i.e. Various things would show up in the samples, water type, food sourse, etc. If anything was suspect then do not allow the record. Just a thought. Bill K

And if the next world record comes from a small pond...... I do not believe there is a minimum body of water size for a record. Interesting thoughts there.

If there is any world record submitted and there was even a hint of doubt, I am positive there would be a polygraph test used for verification. This fact alone will slow the thoughts of someone putting that much time , money and effort to fraud the record.

I personally don't think a record should even count if it comes from a private pond.

There is no polygraph for a record fish... In fact, there is not much required to establish a record...

Several years ago, at one of the first BASS tournaments a couple of guys caught a big bass & decided to enter it in the upcoming BASS tournament, which was a couple of hundred miles away from them.
Ray Scott found out & notified authorities & fish & game departments.
They let the guys weigh in the fish., & then the police arrested them . I dont remember all the particulars, but there was fraud , attempted theft etc. charges.
Eventually the deot of fich & game biologist killed the fish to prove it wasnt from the local area.
DNA profiling wasnt as devoloped then as it is now.
The main way was the mineral content in the local fish verses that fish.
That story was in BASS Master mag. thats where i heard about it.

There is a difference between state record and IGFA record.

The "world record" means you caught the IGFA record.

You can grow the fish in your backyard, catch it there, and get the IGFA world record. Consider the marginal difference between this scenario and if the fish is caught at Lake Mission Viejo (a private lake open only to members). Where do you draw the line? hm.

It isn't listed in the rules above, but I have heard it said that the IGFA may require a polygraph for the world record largemouth bass. There was some stuff quoted to that effect when the Leah Trew fish was submitted.

That's the real story on the subject, and nothing but.

I personally think there are too many variables involved to manufacture a fish that big. I think it would have to be a natural selection that only mother nature can induce.

I tend to agree, but the program Texas has been running seems like an approach that has the best chance of succeeding. TBD.
