Tried throwing it a bit last Saturday. We had windy conditions and I was throwing it on a 735 Powell. Not enough rod for the 9" bait to be sure. I was using braid with a 20lb floro leader. The bait looks great in the water and it walks real nice but it's just so darn big. I'm wondering if I should try to trade someone for a Jr? I have seen fish smack a 9" Slammer so I know the big baits work but this thing looks like a submarine. Anyone with success on the Punker? Would love to hear some stories to keep my interest up. Where have you used it and what have you caught on it?

BTW, I did have my best ever day on the Delta that day, 34 lbs for me and my partner, just fun fishing but nothing on the Punker.

I've caught a 12 pound laregemouth and a 21 pound pound striper on it in the Delta in about 4 trips total.

Do you throw these large swimbaits to the bank then work them back to the boat? Throw parallel to the bank? Fish deeper water away from the bank?

I typically throw them along weedlines and in big open areas. Both fish were caught in about 12 feet of water along a nice weedline. I cast them as far as I can down the weedline and slowly and erratically work them back to the boat. I dont like throwing them at structure because they are so expensive but I'm sure that would work too. I've already had the paint break off of 2 of them and that's just fishing open water. I'd quit using them if they didn't work so well...

All I can say is get a bigger stick and lose the leader. Tie direct and hang on! Delta topwater bite is spotty but it is there when the right conditions present themself. Protected areas with warmer water always help but the main rule is your tide and the mood of the fish on that given day. It always intrigues me when they will eat a bait 1 inch beneath the surface but will not break the surface for a plug. Moody little green fishys!

Thanks all. I'll throw it on my 7'6" next time and use 20 lb mono instead.
