Finally got to do what I've wanted to do for a long time. We got the goils - Mrs. LK and Mrs. Cornfish to join us on a laid back combo trip up the slough. Gals had a little wine, LK and I are tea totallers, so we just beat the crap out of the water.

The slough has been pounded so much there's not much happening there, but its beautiful to fish anyway. LK had the day with a 4 fish total, you can guess the weight of his biggest.

LK yelled to stop the boat as we were cruising by some branches in the water. He said, "Huge Fish." I stopped and he stared at it for a couple minutes. The fish had been caught, tangled in branches, then the fisherman broke off. The fish was still tied to the branch. LK netted it and then had to cut the line before bring it aboard. The hook was deeply embedded and required delicate surgery. We estimated it to be tween 5-6 pounds.



Within seconds of releasing it, LK hooked a nice fish. Within seconds of that, I hooked a nicer fish with my beaver - ahem. It felt big. It made a run and broke off. The fish was polite enough to do two "IN YOUR FACES" by jumping out of water after he broke off, showing us he was about 6 lbs.

Here's LK's fish. There's rumors there's bigger fish in the area but we have no proof.



I ended the day with a happy face and a good time with two great friends but fish count = zero.

I was thinking of coming up to Clear Lake soon but you're scaring me, man...

Not to be scared. They only eat Sea Lions. Or so I've been told.

OOOOOOO now wouldn't that be a welcome Delta photo?

Although there have been no reported orca attacks, they are definite meat eaters..To me it is kinda like my old granddad told me, of course there have never been any reported attacks on humans by wolves in the US, whoever heard of wolf poop reporting anything..The same can be said of the orcas..

I'm still thinking, if humpbacks can swim up the Sac River surely someday an orca could find its way into the Delta and have a field day catching some fat lazy sea lions.

From what I have read, orcas seem to understand that people are not normal prey for them, and attacks are very rare. Even so, can you imagine the look on a float tube guy's face, as he turns around and sees a six foot high dorsal fin swimming toward him?

Cool story about the fish you guys found tangled and then freed.

Greg, aren't you the guy who was looking for a Bagley Smoo a while back? I found I have one that I bought at some point in the distant past. I don't think I ever fished it.

Yes that's me, I used it twice for short periods and caught 1 fish. Vibrates like crazy runs about 6-7 feet deep.
