I am thinking of buying an Okuma EVx-S-6101L rod. It is in my price range and was recommended to me. What are your opinions? Thanks.

Kistler custom rods are quite sweet, and there are four different rod series, so there is a rod for every budget. Check out the web page, or see the line up at Anglers Marine. I use the high end Helium LTX and LTA series, 6'9" and 7' medium for drop shot, mojo, and tossing light line Senkos. I bunch of fishing partners have used my Kistler LTX and LTA rods and afterwards they buy one... Kistler rods are hard to beat. TL

I've been using the G•loomis dropshot rods for years now. No complaints.

Get the best you can afford. I am not going to push any rod on you. If you can afford a better rod great then do it. Okuma is a fine rod and if that is what you can afford then get it. Upgrade later on when you have a little more money.

i have the okuma drop shot rod and love it. i use it for drop shot, split shot and very very light c-rig tecniques. send me a pm if you would like to borrow it.

The Shimano Crucial Drops Shot rods are excellent, as are the Okumas. I like the Crucial a bit more, but the Okumas will do the job well also. I also fish a Loomis DS820. I built it, so it has a bit more butt and less whip on it due to titanium REC guides. I like mine for light DS, darterhead, and splitshot. I've found my 6'8" ML Crucial to be a more versatile rod, because you can fish deeper water and slightly larger baits if need be, unlike the Loomis. The Loomis DS822 is great also, much like the Crucial in many regards.

I haven't seen the okuma rods, but I think that the crucial for the money is a good choice. Middle grade st. croix is good too. I myself use a Loomis dsr822 for d-shot and a sjr782 imx for splitshotting. the 2 power 782 has a light tip w/ power in the middle. It really depends on what type of stuff you are splitshotting. I can not bring myself to splitshot 3-4 inch worms. I tend to splitshot bigger stuff and this bigger stuff requires some more back bone. The rock hop rig w/ floro to mono has been working good. Dropshot and split shot for me are separate rods not the same one. Be sure not to skimp on the reel. I've been leaning toward daiwa, I believe they make a better quality spinning across the board. But what the hell do I know I fish the Pudd...

I'm with Buddy on this... two different rods go with the crucial as you couldn't have bought a rod like that back in the day for any money....Okuma might just be the crossover rod of the two.

the powell drop shot,split shot and darterhead rod is amazing

do I hear POwell Dobyn's no do yourself a favor buy a 7 foot loomis medium extra fast tip are you using the rod for vertical dropshotting or casting? drop shotting can get very technical these days. loomis drop shot rod i feel is better for vertical down shot you need a little more tip for casting more control over the fish . what id actually do is give up drop shoting and fish the jig till you die

I would highly recommend a Performance Tackle Drop Shot rod. Mark makes the best and lightest rods that you can put your hands on. They are a little more money but if you intend on doing a lot of drop shotting I would suggest to invest into one of his rods. Teamed up with a lightweight spinning reel you can't beat it. Trust me when I say this. If you were to fish with one you could never fish with another rod and feel the same. PM me and I can get his number and address. to me the 3 most important aspects of a dropshot/splitshot rod is not the brand (many good/great rods) for sale.
1. feels good in your hand and balanced with the reel you will use with it ( rod will lay in a horizontal position with reel attached the way you hold it naturally with a extremly light grip.
2. WEIGHT because more than likely you'll be using it for long periods of time, also more sensitivity.
3. Sensitivity : bring your reel you'd like to use and mount on rod with line, pull line through guides and lay on floor in a bowed arc. turn your head and have a trusted friend or partner twang the line by just touching it while line is bowed. you should be able to feel something. With my loomis (glx) and Legend Elite St. croix 6-12lb outfits I can feel a distint twang,tap or bomp when a fish inhales my bait, even in the wind, as high as 30mph. So..............

I think he is selling all his Freshwater gear....

At least for me I like a much softer rod to dropshot than to splitshot. G Loomis DS820-22 either is a good choice for dropshotting and a little stiffer 782 in GLX or Mossyback (G Loomis) rod is a good choice for splitshotting.

You cant beat the okuma rods line up for the price. The EVx rods are a great rod for 79.99 and you cant beat the lifetime warranty
on these rods.

My favorite rod for this type of fishing is the Guide select rods. They are IM-8 graphite. They have fuji alconite guides and also life time warranty. I prefer the GS-S-701ML or the GS-S-701M. They both are great drop shot/split shot rods. These 2 rods also cost 79.99.

I've noticed TW has Shimano Clarus rods on sale. Would this rod work well for DS/split shot? Do you prefer a longer rod?

Best Drop shot rod ever made. Evola 6'11" , titanium guides, unbelieveable sensitivity and a feather in your hands all day long. 2nd best, Megabass Tomahawk Aaron Martens D-Shot rod. A little faster tip than the Evola. Both not cheap, but will make up the $ in Tournament paydays. Rick G.
