He knows he'll never have to fish against the guys he's giving baits to or the people watching his shows...


but he is a nice guy... met him two years ago at clear lake, he was fixing his trolling motor at 11pm and took 20 minutes to tell me on what and how he thought the tourney would be won

He could give his competitors the baits and it wouldn't matter.

It would be like Tiger Woods giving someone his clubs and playing against him. You still have to beat him at his game.

KVD is in a league by himself. I'm a firm believer that anyone can be beat on any given day. But it aint ever easy.

I second that Gorilla. He is a machine! When he is on his game (which he is almost always) he is hard to beat. Even in last weeks televised BASS elite he only lost by 8 oz and he dropped 4 or 5 fish on a crankbait (fish were not eating the crank that good). KVD is THE MAN.

Not downplaying KVD's accomplishments or skills but he's obligated to what you mentioned--that's the kind of promotion the bait companies are paying him the big bucks for. He gives input on their designs, fishes the bait to show its potential and then gets the word out through the various timeslots/media the bait company has paid for or has an interest in. The more he promotes it, the more the bait sells.

Yea he is paid to do it, but he has earned that spot by being an awesome fisherman. And I have yet to see a situation where he has been less than curteous to everyone he has encountered.

KVD finished second throwing a sexy shad on Decatur.
KVD finished 1st in Florida throwing a Red-eye Shad lipless crank bait.

If KVD wins fishing the bait he promotes, that is the best promotion of all.

FISH_FOOD I have to disagree with you. He is not obligated to hand out baits he is only obligated to promote products and to tell people where to get them.

When he does something like that it is on him and he probably has more product then he knows what to do with. So I'm sure he never worries about handing out baits.

I'm sure many on this board have done this before. It's great for our sport when guys do that.

I'm sure 98% of people would have KVD on there fantasy fishing team. He is the man.

Handing out schwag is all part of the promotion--and in many industries, not just fishing. I'm sure the big names get plenty of stock to hand out...

Some people have hate to give out, and others have baits to give out. There is a big difference between promoting a product and shoving it down our throats.

Everyone loves getting free stuff and talking with inside folks...that's part of the reason why people like going to the SHOT Show, ICAST, CES, etc...

I'm a big fan of KVD and looked up to him when he came into the sport and still do...however it's pretty hard to keep anything a secret when you have a mic pack on, helicopter overhead,a backseater,and a few million watching at home. Look at how fast the sexy shad made it to paint across the board.

He's a class act and his attention to detail is second to none.

And he just WON the BASS this last weekend with the same baits. My brother-inlaw had A chance to follow him around on Sunday. He was AMAZED on how he worked the baits and the SPEED that he did it.

KVD doesn't fish to keep baits a secret, he fishes to promote them.

And he is great at it. The fishing, and the promotion end of it.

KVD could catch Bass on stinkbait or random worms found at the ramp. And probably get me to buy them.
