Sizmic War Head Weights.....when rigged the weight is BELOW the bait....the weight punches the cover allowing the bait to penetrate the mat or whatever cover your flippin/pitchin/punchin! I assume these are new as I have never seen them-they are pretty pricey but I gotta try them.Plus they are at my FAVORITE tackle joint-dammit I will have to order some other stuff so I can get my free shipping DARN!

Gene at the Hook had them last summer. Bernie Gaunt was on true bass and was punching matts with them last summer as well.

I got some last year and can't wait to get back on the Delta and give them a try. Looks like you might lose a few of them once you get hooked up.

Actually you won't lose many at all. The weight is between the rod and the hook point so unless you lose the fish the weight shouldn't come off.

If you do lose some it will be without a fish on the line.

It's a pretty cool idea and should work if you like punching the thick stuff!

I don't like them....maybe I suck at punchin but I lost everyone I had last summer. I did catch some fish though, just nothing big enough to justify throwing weights away!!

I've used em,, they do penetrate the thick stuff a little easier and they're a little cheaper than tungston......

the downside is they do tend to come off a lot... I went back to regular in-line pentrators and never lose em..

How do they 'come off'-youd have to rip the bait off the hook to lose the weight wouldnt you??? thanks-

Exactly!

punching heavy vegetation is hard on soft plastic baits... when the bait gets torn... and it will... you lose the weight..


also losing, or missing, fish in the thick stuff is another issue.......the fish pulls the bait down or off, and off goes the weight..

I still have 2 of those weights left and thought about maybe trying to bend the wire hope together so the hook points barely fits through.... I was thinking that may help some......... cuz I really like like the idea of a bottom weight in theory

Ever think about putting a trailer hook style keeper on the hook?
That might work for keeping the weight on.

That was my experience too...lost everyone. I went back to old reliable - pegged tungsten weight.

I'm with the majority of you guys in that I went back to old school punch weights. These new weights penetrated cover easier and I feel your hook up is better b/c you have more of a Senko type arrangement with no impedment of the weight to restrict hook penetration.

The downside is I was loosing too many weights with this new system. Mysteriously lost 2 weights on 2 big fish landed with hook in the mouth! Only explanation is they just wrecked it upon inhale and crushed it in the back of the mouth, weight came off and I set hook. Then they spit the weight or swallowed it (ouch-indigestion) during the battle.

I tried Big Daddy's suggestion of pinching the wire, but then found it to difficult to thread the hook thru the sinker.

I also saw Bernie Gaunt on True Bass and he appeared to really like this method. I'm sure there has to be a modification out there. Come on guys, give it up!!

That's what I plan on doing Tom. I just have to get out and then get bit to see if it works.
