Top Stick Joes Set to Debut with Two Regions

The Top Stick Tour is pleased to announce a new circuit, the Top Stick Joes, beginning in early 2009. Top Stick Joes is a series of low cost events where fisherman can enjoy tournament fishing without the feeling that they’re just donating to the teams that "always win". Joes is a league where you can improve your skills at a low cost and still have a good opportunity to earn some of it back. It’s built for the husband/wife, father/son or daughter and mid to entry-level tournament fishermen.
"The Top Stick Tour is happy to announce Ray Leyerly has agreed to be the Tournament Director for the So Cal and Inland Empire Region" said John Barron President and Owner of the Top Stick Tour.
"This will be a new and exciting series of tournaments. These tournaments are designed for club members wanting to step up a notch and families to fish and enjoy a day out on the water with friends and family. I look forward with excitement to the new season in both regions. " says Ray Leyerly, the Tournament Director for both the So Cal and Inland Empire Region.
This series is designed for mid to entry-level competitors wanting to fish tournaments with their wives or children and have some fun with an affordable entry fee.
By bringing the Top Stick Joes to the market we’re trying to introduce a family fishing series that’s still competitive, while not putting a lot of undue pressure on the participating anglers.
Entry fees will be $115 per team. There will be special options available such as Husband Wife team and Father/son or daughter team as well as a few special options. Options are listed on the entry form on the Top Stick Joe website. Membership will be $35 per person with an additional $10 per family member.
There are special restrictions that will determine which teams are eligible to compete in the Top Stick Joe’s. If you and/or your partner have earned $4500 or more last year fishing in tournaments then you are not eligible to compete. All pro anglers and those wishing to compete against the highest levels of competition will be directed to the Top Stick Tour. If a team manages to get in to these events and doesn’t meet the qualifications they will be suspended from any Top Stick Tour hosted events including “opensâ€

JB and Ray , not sure why the 4500.00 rule . that kind of blows for the little people if their father , uncle , cant get them introduced into the tournament gig on the lower playing field becouse they did well on their reg. season .Or even half ***' ed for that matter but was able to get 4500.00 back from o say 15 or 20 differant derbies .
My boy would love to fish this but we may not be able to , do to one lucky derbie this season . The rest bareley paid for the fuel . For a guy that does multible derbies all season but just does OK at best , 4500.00 is not much and hardly means anything in comparison to how many derbies some of these guys fish . Those small pay checks can add up fast in this case but hardly compares to what they spend to play .
I would hate to see some of the young guns miss out on spending time learning what we all live for becouse of a $$ rule .
I thought the porpose of this was to get the younger people involved and to be a family event regardless of who you are or arent or what you have or have not done .

Ron, they have to draw the line somewhere. If they were to make it $6500 instead of $4500m others would complain as well. If you don't think so, spend a day in their shoes and experience all of the gripes and whining. You won't like it.
You should be fishing the Top Stick Pros anyways. Same as your son. Have him fish non-boater and he'll be fishing with guys like Malikian, Hart, and Grover. His learning curve will shorten drastically.

My son is 11 years old. No way in hell he is ready to fish anything as an am. I dont think guys will be fishing this thing to cherry pick . But I do think if some of the big guns get involved it could be big for the sport . I dont think this has to be for a direct family member . Some could donate a derbie for some unfortunate kids as well that dont get these chances .Big brother for example .Sponsors come with the names and the cause . I say keep it open to all . Should be no limitations when it comes to giving a kid a chance to to see what its all about . Its not like were talking about winning boats and spending thousands on TOC's. Its about sharing our passion with the ones that dont get the opertunity on a regular basis like some of us do .

it seems they don't want the big guns to get involved, this is geared more towards your weekend angler rather than your tourney angler the rule levels the playing field making for a affordable circuit for your average guy who cant afford to donate to the local pro who fishes 5 days a week.

Uh someone gets the whole Idea I see
Ron T I would have to disagree with you on the cherry picking, I fished the Fed region 7 for 2 years and have seen it at every trny there, That is geared towards a entry person just trying to get into the sport and most the guys that fished it would be out there fishing a Team trny the day before and then go back on sunday to try and take the chezze from the everyday joe, when money is involed anything can happen.
and the last thing that is needed around here is another trny trail were the big guns as you call them can just come in and take the chezze from the weekend guys that would like to fish something but cann't spend 500.00 a weekend to give it away
I'm not trying to start anything here but look at Ricky S getting upset about the 1st date for the New region 8 for the Fed the cherry picking is allready starting there and the dates are not even out
the way I look at this is if someone has the Money to fish all these other Pro-am, team trnys and the fed and still prefish then they REALLY Don't need to be in this also
Just my 2 cents worth

There are lots and lots of team tournaments out there where you can take a youngster to go fish and introduce them to competitive fishing.
ABA, Anglers Choice, WON BASS, NBW, heck even the Bald Brothers have tournaments that you can comfortably bring a young kid to and fish.
If you are earning $4500 or more a year from fishing then this isn't being built for you.
sTony

JB - I'll see if I can talk her into getting up for it, but she swears she wouldn't get up that early in the morning for anything, so it might be a hard sell.
Love the idea and the way you guys put it together... should hit the mark nicely! I'll see if I can put something together, even if it isn't with the wifey.

i did.. best check i got from wonbass was only 974.. just goes to show consistancy is they key. I only fished 3 circuits.. chris and I only cashed 1325. 100% i cleaned them out for trolling motor props. Our 2 seconds in wonbass paid 974 and 870, but we got them when it counted..
wonbass - 2680
NBW- 1325
100%- 5 trolling motor props
good thing i didnt fish night derbies this season

a little birdy told me not to.
hahah heck Chris and I could fish this if we wanted to..
Pops and I are going to have some fun, if he don't want to my little bro will hop all over this.

On the website you have these dates:
Inland Empire TSJoes Region Lake Perris – 3/1, DVL – 3/29, Perris – 4/26 and DVL – 5/31, 2009
SoCal TSJoes Region Castaic- 3/8, Pyramid – 5/16, Castaic-6/21 and Castaic 7/11, 2009
And then some in orange that are different (off by a day) and both regions at DVL on the same days twice..Which ar ethe dates and if the two DVL's are duals why not just make it one region and have 6 total events?
Are these event's point driven with a championship?

That's funny right there!!!
I'm not sure you're the target demographic, but qualifications are qualifications for all.
And I'm sure Big Unc didn't catch them all... you're
much too hard on yourself John! I know you spend the time and do your homework, which leads to success.

hahaha i took quicker then i thought roger.. a loop hole was found and im not allowed. Looks like my little bro is getting a depressing phone call. Good luck to those who do get to fish it. Since we won AOY they are counting the free entries as well ( which makes sense to me) so that will put me over the 4500.00 cap.

Thanks Roger. It should have been alot better. MY uncle and I were laughing at how horrible of year we had ( all the fish lost, I lost two fish over 10 in two diff derbies and just freak things happening ) and we somehow still won the AOY. I can't wait to see how we fair when we are firing on all cylinders. Im hoping we have a better year in 08-09. I want two titles in one season, one with unc and one with chris. We have been putting in super overtime and alot of hard work with the aqua vu. Next year should be a blast. Learned alot of new things about that pond over summer. I love this falling water, new playgrounds popping up every where. Next year should be a blast.

One thing to keep in mind............all dates are tentitive until permits are in hand and lakes have confirmed. That's why most circuits don't like to put the schedule out too early because things beyond our control can change. Most circuits will not put that schedule out until the last minute or forced to.
The two day in July at Castaic has been changed and it will now be Top Stick Joes on Saturday and Castaic Bass Club on Sunday.
