Love – Hate relationship with the Delta

Just woke up from a nap – 3:30 comes early to go fishing. Getting up that early is really not the problem, the problem come when you only catch one little fish. It just makes the day longer and hotter.

When pre-fishing last week and my girl the Delta treated me like I was the only guy for her. Fished an outgoing tide and it was a jig and worm day. I’m not talking about one and two ponders – I mean she was giving me three, four and five ponders – it was a good date with the old girl “The Deltaâ€

Marty, thanks for this post. I fished my first tournament today and the Delta was not puttin out  I've been mooping around my house this afternoon depressed, but your post has lifted my spirits a little. Don't know why, but always feel better when someone else has the same experience I've had. Guess we'll have to just go back out and give it another try, another day.

Thank God guys it wasn't just me!!! I feel better now. I went out of Orwood at 7am and fished all over the place until 4:30 and couldn't buy a bite. I finally got a 1.5 lber and a 5 incher on a spinnerbait around 2 but I couldn't find the fish to save my life. It was beautiful weather and I threw EVERYTHING at them to no avail and was so irritated cuz I have been doing so well on the Delta until now. Anyways good to hear it wasn't just me doing something stupid. Hope it's better next time out.

Marty,

This reminds me of my favorite Ernest Hemingway quote from he Old Man and the Sea:
"Keep warm old man," the boy said. "Remember we are in September."
"The month when the great fish come," the old man said. "Anyone can be a fisherman in May."

You're scaring me, Marty!!! I may have to rethink my relocation plans!

Just goes to show you, though, why they call it "fishing" rather than "catching"! She isn't always such a fair lady, but show me one that is!

I'm hoping if it all works out right, that I can hook up with a few guys like yourselves to get me started out on the right track. Don't bail before I get there buddy!

Marty,

Just got a call from my ole friend at Warner Bros and they want to do a movie about your relationship with the woman "Delta". The studio is very excited to find out more about Delta...

Boy was it hot out there!!! My first hook tourny (only done 3 FPT tournies) and I have to say it was pretty cool. I'm gonna try to do all of them.

Marty, you were right behind me on the way in. I rock the older red skeeter. Those days happen. It was the opposite for me. I got skunked the last time I went to the delta before sunday and caught fish this time, except they were all small instead of 5lbs.

O', Dan...I was the one who reminded you that your trolling motor was down when you were about to load up...... I'm sure you would of noticed eventually  sorry, had to bring it up on here....haha.

Dayum Jerby -- I wished you would of stuck around so I could thank you !

I prolly would of missed that - as the sun and heat just done did me in yesterday -- And I even put sunblock on for the first time after gettting burned up on the water Saturday.

Luke and I were the last ones in .... We were not gona come in until we at least cought a bluegill ! Then the wife kept calling my cell phone thinking we were dead .......

The very last place we fished for "Pets'" -- I was tossing a chatter with a Saltwater Yamo in white that I detailed with a Sharpie. Don't know if it was the same fish or two seperate 3-4 pounders ... It would follow just behind the bait no matter how much I slowed it down and tryed to entice it to strike.

DeltaLuke asked if these fish have supergule on their lips .... I told him no ~ and it was because were were given my lucky number as our boat number ..... and cursed from the very beginning with #11.
