Looking to get into a new spinning reel. Will be used for drop shotting and throwing senkos. Will typically be pair with 8-10 flurocarbon. Looking at the 2500 size I believe. What would you get, size, and why? Thanks.

I use the Symetre 2500 and like it a lot. Used the 2000's for many years until they wore completely out. Good reel and the price is right.

Stradic 2500. smooth drag and never had a problem with one. I own 4 tho i haven't used them very much lately. Been chuckn crnkbait and swimbaits on the delta.

I am a huge Shimano fan. That said, I use Quantum spinning reels. The drags on the PT reels are butter smooth and the price of the Quantum is much better than Shimano. I have the newest Tour Edition models and they are no better than the much cheaper Energy or Catalyst.

Have you checked out the 09 Sahara? I have never cared for them much, but the 09 one is friggin sweet. I picked up a 2500 and cant believe it only cost $70...def the best bargain out there. Shimano quality has been kinda funky the last couple years, but this year they appear to have gotten it together nicely!

But you need to go take a look at the Mitchell 300Xe GOLD reels. Mitchell reels were what your dad used in the day, but they are now making dang nice stuff again. I use them a lot and the price, drag, and quality i would put up against any that others have mentioned.

These reels are sweet and the carbon matrix drag on them is the same system used on the extremely popular Revo Reels from Abu Garcia (Pure Fishing owns both companies).

Before I make my comments know that I am a hugh Shimmano fan. So her go's. Stradic Is a good reel, Stradic mg is a really good reel, and the Sustain is a really nice reel. However the new Diawa Fueago's are very nice, but they are on the higher end comming in around $269. Now if money is no object I would go with the Diawa Steez spinning reel. The smoothest reel I have ever fished period. None of the above reels are a bad choice its what fits you and your price range. The more you spend the smother you get. Hope this helps jim

for the cost of one stradic you can GET two Excellers! The drag system on the dawia spinning reels are where its at. I have been slowly replacing out my shimano spinning reels with this guy

Sahara, or Symetre are both more than enough reel to cover the applications you have mentioned. Yes, I do work for Shimano in-directly. However, I am really impressed by the new spinning reel line-up. Besides, like one customer told me the other day,
"I buy Shimano because I know it will be around, working for 10-15 years". Good luck!

I own (4) quantum pt energy 2 years old...(2) have failed...(anti-reverse) I am replacing them with the Diawas above. Good drag, great price! That and I don't like to back-reel. I love my shimano bait casters though!

I am a die hard shimano fan. Even there 19 dollar reels get the job done. In saying that, I just got a diawa tierra. I think its awsome with the giant spool diameter (less twist) and the drag. I only use spinning gear for light tubes, and dart heads 1/8 ounce or less. Anything 1/4 or bigger and DS I use baitcasters now. Shimano currados, even the old ones can through a 1/4 ounce dart just as good as a spinning real, with no chance of line twist. I am sure the revo's could do it to. I try to remove all the variables that cause trouble fishing, spinning gear for me has always been one of those problems. Mostly after I step on it, twist my ankle and the real wobbles and I limp.

those SOL's are heavy but smooth. Di they redesign it? if not, i'd say a Stradic for sure! I have not bought a new one yet but seen a few over and over. The shimano reels just feel more tuned and precise in design.

Sol and the Fuego are both very sweet reels.The Sol weights 9.2 oz and the Fuego weights 8.6oz.Both seem pretty light and very smooth to me.Great for all applications with light line(7-10 lb)exp drop-shotting.
