I am getting ready to re-carpet my boat. I have never done it before. For an 18'6" boat will a carpet size of 19'x8' be enough or will i need more? Any other tips from those who have done this before will also be greatly appreciated!

I know it varies, but my old Ranger is 17'10" and it is takening about 8 yards to do mine.

Well I did mine and ended up coming up short. I purchased 18 feet for my 16 foot boat and had to reorder a small piece to finish. I went through a guy who had a port supply account at West Marine but I got stuck with the shipping both times. My suggestion to you is to go through either a company as suggested above or through a wholesale place that has it on hand. It is pretty spendy stuff for the marine grade stuff.

From my experience triple check everything before you cut it. It took me longer than I thought but was very rewarding after it was completed. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

I have done several 18 ft. bass boats and usually get a 30x8ft piece. That is enough to do the trailer bunks and any mistakes.
I like to use the Hard As Nails outdoor carpet glue, this stuff works great! Take your time and make sure all of your pieces are laid out in one direction. I always use an arrow on both the lids and the carpet to show which direction is forward. If you mix up the direction on the different pieces, you will end up with different shades.

Notice that the deck extension is not in (I had them carpet the floor in case I pull the deck extension out for some reason), the hole for the pedestal, floor drain and comfort-troll are not cut yet, the seats and lids are not on, etc. It's looking good can't wait to get it all done.

.... Several years ago RickG (Rick Grover of Anglers Marine) wrote an article on DIY bass boat re-carpet jobs. It was published in Bass West USA magazine. I read it ... I used it .... I gots no complaints. A good step by step guide. Contact the folks at Bass West USA, they could probably send you an electronic copy of this article from their archive library.

Take your time and strip the old stuff off good and take my word for it use "OOPS" it melts the old backing and comes off like butter
