BassDIY- My version of Punch set up

Had a few PM’s requesting that I post a few photos of how I set up my bait for punching. I know there are different ways of doing it but this is my way of doing it. If you have constructive inputs please make them.
The first Photo shows all of the items that I will be using and I will break it down for each photo. All of these items I pick up at the Hook, Line, and Sinker. When I took the photo I did not put the rubber pegs.

I start working on the bait first – I like to add a little nose to the Sweet Beaver just in case the Bass don’t hit the bait as it goes through the mat and I have to let it set on the bottom or yo-yo it. I drill two holes on each side of the Sweet Beaver for I can insert the glass tube with beads. Need to drill deep enough to make sure the glass tube goes all the way in where if leave enough space to pinch the closing to apply Mend-It. Need to be careful here because when you put on mend-it and there is any tension (pull at the drill hole) the bait it will split apart. Once you put Mend-It hold the opening close and blow on it for a few seconds.

The next step will make your sweet beaver last a lot longer and keep it from tearing the front end of the Sweet Beaver. Using needle nose pliers and “O-ringâ€

Great job Marty, I really appreciate the energy and effort you put into this write up. I think it should be posted as an article for future reference.
I will ask the man what we can do to get that accomplished.

Why use the punch skirt? Why would a regular jig skirt not work? At 2.99 - 3.99 they would be a bit cheeper

Thanks Marty, that set-up looks awesome!!! You definetly put a lot of thought into that rig!!! I have been trying but I just can't seem to get that "snell knot" correct. Is there a secret to it??
John.

Marty,
Great looking setup ...
BUT what is the purpose of the punch skirt?! It seems to me that the more material used, reduces the effectiveness of getting your bait through the thick vegetation. Further, once it get's through that matt ... it drops so fast that the fish will not be able to ID the thing anyway. Am I not understanding the benefits of the skirt?

SKTR 20i,
You should watch the video of Bub Tosh fishing his new product...he gives a breakdown of how to tie a "revised" snell knot that is sooooooo easy and super fast to tie...strong as well.
check it out...

Marty, have you noticed an increase in fish since using the punch skirts? I personally think the setup looks great but can't tell if its worth it.

Thank you Marty....
...this is the type of post that keeps me coming back to this forum! The political and PC BS makes it hard for a great post like this to get visibility...IMO

Am I the only one who thinks that the punch skirt is really cool just for rigging with plastics, not neccesarily for punching?
I've been making my own in a slightly different fashion, but it works great just for adding a little jazz to any plastic for pitching and casting...Hell, I was catching smallies on a reservoir with it on wednesday!

there are unlimited possibilities for this skirt type! The other skirts will work but tear after only a couple fish. The bead prolongs the life of the skirt for piles of fish. It will survive the wear and tear of structure and all the crap its gonna get thrown in. The regular skirts will not handle what this one can. In the long run the punch skirt will be cheaper to use because it will hold up and last. The pros as far as action is concerned are numerous. The skirt adds bulk and displaces more water. When punching water displacement is very important. Without the displacement the burried grass fish may never know your bait is there. More bulk=more water displacement. Visually the skirt will add more movement on the fall or retieve. Try using a bullet weight ,a punch skirt and your favortie plastic instead of swimming a jig! It works great in the grass and will not ball up with snot as easily. It also adds appeal when the falling bait hits the bottom the skirt flares open adding a secondary action that could turn a cautious fish into a careless mistake maker. I am not sponsored by paycheck baits but I know a good idea when i see one for sure. There are numerous advantages to this new and innovative product. These are only a few and im sure ill be able to come up with more nifty uses for them! Ill post them as they come to me when i get off the water. Give em a try and have fun bombarding grass and junkpile fish!

Also Yo-Yo'ing them under the bottom of the matts has worked well for us. -- Locate the Craws in the matt's and grass ... and you can be on them fo'sur.
The Craws out there right now in the matts/weeds are BIG ! You can even find them while cutting/cleaning the grass off your TM - on your TM itself. Biggest for us is still 4.5 ... But ALOT of fun and hook-up's when they are not biting muth else. When they take it - THEY TAKE IT !!
Thanks again Bub for a new angle of fishing that was easily instructed to add with your help in further clarifying from your vid's that you made public to all.
PS- That snell knot works for worming on Floro as well !!

The rubber peg going through the eye of the hook serves the same purpose and the Shrink Tubing on the hook to help hold the bait in place. Again I over did everything by twofold. The peg was showed to me by Don Iovino when we were at Clear Lake. You really don’t have to do it and the shrink tubing could do the job.
Punching is not easy, if fact I believe it takes more out of you then throwing a swing bait all day. So anything to help with the process I’m in favor of. When I ask the question to Bub and Ben (Bub's fishing partner) they said besides giving you a bigger profile it also help the bait to penetrate and exit the mat. I personally did not feel that advantage but I like the bigger profile. Did the skirt increase my fish account – I will let you know – I’m still counting.
As for the “Snell Knotâ€
