Bo Hawg pork was originally made by Strike King, who got out of the pork business about 10 years ago. You can still find isolated stock on the internet and quick sales on E-bay. Most of this though is the Pork-O and Bo-Liz, the Frog versions are very scarce. I purchased about 500 jars back in late 1999 from every WallMart I could find in the 3 Western states. You might find some in other parts of the country sitting on some baren, dusty shelf out back.

Thanks guys, never been a fan of super pork, guess if cooch says no thats it. Uncle josh used to make an 11 in junebug that was my very favorite, purple's good, but there was something about that darker color. I guess I could dye super pork a dark purple, but it just doesn't seem to have the bulk.

Try the UJ black blue, I use that today in both the Big Daddy and Jumbo as I prolly only have 2-3 jars left of the black/blue in the Bo-Hog. Bo-Hog used to come in a color called Tequila, it still to this day has a limited "Cult" following on this River, as a couple of us have a few jars and break it out from time to time. kinda fun talking to these guys I see maybe once or twice a year, and we still whisper and marvel about that color. The black and blue combo, for me, has allowed me to really fergit about Tequila! Might work the same for you versus that Junebug!

After going out with Cooch a few years back, I bought the remaining jars of all the Strike King Bo Hawgs I could find. I never did find the Tequlia color, but the white dyes very nicely.

Cooch, it's a treat talking to you about this. I live way up in the socal mountains and the lake I fish 90% of the times is very clear, therefore I use brown jigs 95% of the time. Brown on brown or brown and purple. This lake is weed, hard bottom, rock with wall to wall docks. Any tips I could get would be great. I fish jigs probably 75% of the time, mostly pitching or flipping, hair jigs for the smallies through the mid winter.thanks

The problems with UJ pork are; poor floation and stiff. UJ holds colors dye very, but you need to tenderize them for good swimming action. Pedigo was the premeir pork trailer company before UJ bought them, then UJ was the only pork available, until Bill Dance got Strike KIng making pork for a few years. You can always make your own.
Super Pork doesn't have the tough outer skin to hold dye as well as most other pork trailers, but...it's the best floating and good swimming pork.
Buy the natural white and dye it with Rite liquid mixed 1 to 1 mixed in warm water. You can mix dyes to get whatever color you desire. Before you dye any pork trim the thick fat side of the tails.
I have caught several bass over 17 lbs on Super Pork trailers, they work! Cooch has his favorites, knows jigs as well as anyone.
Both UJ and SP take some TLC to fish properly. Good luck.
Tom
PM me if you want sketches on how to trim pork.

Tom, thanks for the ideas, going to give SP another shot. I have a friend who swears by it, likes it because can dry out and still be ok. I'm big on dying stuff, can probably get close to junebug in a couple of hundred tries. I used Perdigo ells(?) years ago and still have(and use) some of the big spinrites, a great bait. Again thanks.

Black grape (dark purple) pork should work. Make up a june bug skirt; black, dark purple with green flakes or black/dark purple/dark green buck tail hair combination. Use a 3/4 " Bonzai worm segment on the hook shank; perfect size, good scent and the right color.
Don't let any pork trailer dry out; get a pig blanket or use a wet hand towell to wrap around the jig when not in use.
May still hold BBL record bass caught back in '59 before they killed all the fish; 8 lbs., understand a 6 lber is a real trophy up there now.
Good luck.
Tom

Tom, I fish BB some still, but it has had problems, used to be a real good lake. I'm from down the road a few miles. Thanks for all the tips, I've been fishing a jig and pork for 35 years and still by far my favorite way to catch fish. Thanks again.
