FAVORITE WAKE BAIT? WHY?

I have a 7" and 9" AC minnow that I love and am thinking of getting a MS SLAMMER X2. It seems like the original SLAMMER would be basically the same bait as the AC but the X2 has an extra joint. I would think it has more and different action. Anyone have both and can compare ? Otherwise what's you're favorite "waker" and why ?

All those baits are good. Dont forget the wake jr. Its a phenominal waker. Pricey but well worth it. The small cracker is great for a blue gill appearance. Caught a lot of delta fish on the original crackers too. Which one is best is tough to answer. It all depends on what mood the fish are in that day or hour. They will always seem to fall for 1 better than the others. When I know they are on the wake bait bite I try a few and see what they chew the best.

BBZ Trout. Why? Because it flat out catches fish and the cost is 30.00!

ABT lures makes a small wake bait, and Strike king sells it as Shad King and Wake shad....a multi jointed Kong. All are made by ABT or licenced to ABT. They are durable, inexpensive, and on a rainbow pattern wake shad I caught a 4.7lb LMB last year.
The sub surface presentation works best for me on weedy areas like the delta or private lakes where the weeds are 1-3' below the surface....works better than spinnerbaits for sure.

Don't forget about the Jackall Mikey and Mikey Sr. I have had some good luck with these baits from Otay Lake to Clear Lake. California Trout for southern Cal lakes, Tennessee Shad for northern Cal, has been my best two colors. Got a black one with 2X hooks ready to go for the DVL night series this summer!!

7", single jointed MS. Slammer! I own 7 Slammers and my all time favorite one that is tied on is 8 years old and still catching fish!
Why ya ask, well Rob Belloni told me so, it was one of 4 given to me before going to the Amazon in 2002 that survived that trip and Jeremy Anderson custom painted it for me!

Tough to choose between the 7" Slammer and the Wake jr.
I have caught way more fish on the Slammer. But then again I have thrown the Slammer a bunch more than the Wake jr.
Best wake bait bite I've ever been on was with the Wake jr.
Slammer is pretty much indestruct-O. You can chuck it right up in there even on a windy day with out fear of breaking the tail off your bait.
Then again break a tail on a 316 and they will replace it right now no questions asked.
Salmmer's are hand made and tend to be a little inconsistant. I have four of the 7" salmmers and no 2 fish the same.
Wake jr. very consistant. You know what your getting.
Slammer costs about half what a wake jr. costs.
When it comes down to it both baits catch a ton of fish and are worth every penny. You cant go wrong with either bait.
On the topic of wake baits I just gotta throw this out there. For numbers of bites the buzz jet cant be beat.

Bass Pro used to make a Real Image two piece floating minnow, that had a bill and dove to about a foot on a fast retrieve.
I cut the bill off square just below the lure body, and it is now a wake bait.
Deadly for spawning fish, fry guards, and fish that are up shallow to feed.

I have to agree with the M.S. Slammer, they are better baits all the way around than the A.C. Minnow, I have caught many giant spots on both and several times the A.C. Minnow after hook up has completely come apart and you lose the fish and end up with half of a bait, or just the front eye. Also if you hit one rock with the A.C. they are done. The problem is there are subtle differnces in action between the two so with all of the faults I still use both, just when I get a new A.C. minnow I have to field strip it and epoxy everything when I re-assemble it, the Slammer is good to go right out of the bag and you can bounce it off all the rocks you want and it will still work. Wake Jr's are ok but they too break very easy up in the rocks, for the money the M.S. Slammer is the best wake bait made of couse this is just my opinion for what it is worth.

If a 5/8 ounce Jitterbug would be considered a "wake-bait", that gets my nod for many reasons:
1].. It has caught tons of fish for me.
2].. It has worked really well for me since 1960, with minor modifications [change the hooks!]
3].. It's cheap to buy.
4].. It takes no special technique [crank slowly].
5].. You can buy them everywhere.

The slammer is an awesome bait but my all time favorite IS the wake jr. Why? Simple answer is it just catches fish, I've had the same bait for over 3 years and cant even count how many fish I've caught on it. Everybody complains about the price of that bait bit it is well worth the money, it'll pay for itself in no time.
