Rigging Giant Tubes

Ok, so, I read in an article that when Ish Monroe rigs up one of his infamous giant tube baits he only puts the hook through one side of the plastic. Huh? Can someone please explain to me how in the heck you're supposed to do this?

It's a tube ...so you put the hook in the tube and pop it out the top and one side.

Try again...he Texas-rigs it with like a 10/0-12/0 EWG hook.

You start it like any other texas rig, but instead of going through the bottom and out the top, he rigs it kinda side-ways so it skin hooks through the side. That is what I got out of it. I'm not trying to hi-jack this thread, but Canyon Plastics makes a 10" tube now, this thing is a trip!! I wish I had water here to fish it...

The description sounds like texaposed rigging, but I would think being rigged off center would be undesirable.

Yeah, I guess it is more tx-posed, and I think he does it for sight fishing purposes. That is how I saw it rigged, I agree with the action though.

Yes, it seems it would be off center, but he probably skin hooks it so get an easier hookset while site fishing. I would prefer just using a big G-Lock worm hook and going all the way through the tube so it was still relatively weedless but still exposed on the texas rig.

you have to be careful with that. Some tourney orgs have a 7/0 size restriction.
Tie a few inches of braid on a 7/0 hook. Clip on a 1/2 ounce or whatever DS weight. Stick it inside the tube, pop it out one side and Texas rig. Pop out the hook eye and tie it on.

Where is Dan Wurm when you need him?
Blade Runner makes a good stand up jig head for giant Tora tubes that works good.
I like the Gamakatsu #2894 4/0 wide gap jig hook on a 1/2 oz football for 7" Tora tubes. Don't think this 4/0 hook isn't big enough, it's wider gap than a 7/0 worm hook and .056D forged wire, very strong.

What size is the Mag G-Lock? Will it work as well or even better than the Picasso 12/0 Ish hook?

I think the G-Mag is a size 7/0 or 8/0.
The Ish hook is just scary, I've got a couple sitting on the window sill next to me cause I can't figure out what to do with them
