I just took by boat by it last week. Boarded up and no buyers yet is what I was told. It looked very beat up. It,s going take lots of money to get that place up in running if someone steps up to take a bet on the place. Hope this helps.

Drove by last week and it was locked up tight. I do not think in this economy anyone has the ability to rebuild this place even though I have been told commercial construction money is cheap right now.

From what I can remember they would have to bulldoze and start over with most of the property. This is one more sad story from lake County.

Years ago they had the money to fix the roads but politics kept that from happening.

Could you imagine the value of Clear lake if 29 was a straight through 4 lane road from napa valley to Lower lake?

It can be done, look at the construction of the bypass from Reno to Carson city along the mountains. All about State's priorities.

wouldnt it be cool to build a new place, start from scratch & make a state or the art facility that was designed specificly for fisherman.
do you think it would fly ?

Another deal the Lake County Board of Supervisors screwed up on! When Kenwood Investments was interested in purchasing the property, their request to develop it into a casino was shot down by the BOS, because it was not Indian land. KI pulled out of the deal. Later, as property values plummeted, and everyone was informed Konocti Harbor Spa and Resort was closing, BOS indicated they were now in favor of "allowing" a casino, but that is a joke in itself, as Lake County has no legal right to determine what is Indian property. The federal government makes that distinction, as is the situation with the Upper Lake Pomo tribe, who have taken legal action to have Indian land returned to them that was taken away years ago through unlawful means. The problem with Lake County is they have people in local government with no clue of what they're doing!

Which is ironic, because Lake County I think is one of two counties in the state of CA that operates in the black financially. Weird for people who have no clue of what they are doing.

Lake County operating in the black?? Are you kidding me??!! They have a sewer system, which has been cited by the state numerous times for health and safety violations, which dumps raw sewage into the lake during heavy rain, yet, they continue to operate the system without upgrades to bring it up to standards as required by health and safety code. Clearlake city wants to develop the old airport land, but don't want to invest the funds necessary to upgrade the sewer system to handle the increase in load. The algae problem from last summer killed business owners and ruined the tourism season, yet, have you heard, or seen a plan set in place to handle this possible problem this year? The mussel sticker program is nothing but a money grab by the county. They take in all this money, yet nothing is seen in improvements. Sure, any county can operate in the black when no funds are spent for necessary upgrades and maintenance. Just look at Lake County roads, which are listed as one of the worst in the state. Look at Clearlake city. About ready to file for bankruptcy. Lake County operates in the black? My ***!

So when does a county have to pay for the lack of foresight for a city? Lucerne has water problems because they wouldn't fork over money to up grade their water system on an ongoing basis.

Show me a city without some problems. Sonoma that's wealthy has a **** hospital, Napa has its problems during floods. Where's your nirvana?

As far as algae, WTF are you supposed to do about nature taking it's course. They had the same kind of bloom on a few lakes in Minnesota last year for no known cause. I'd love to hear your recommended solution.

I dont think all of us bang on Lake county, I just think it is a waste of a great resource.

I have seen many lake's throughout the country (mostly on TV) they seem to have it together and usually they are upscale communities.

I could remember as a kid my family buying a lot at Clear Lake for $500. maybe that will be 2011 prices.

With upscale communities comes a shutdown of the access to water and higher priced resorts that force lower income families out of water recreation and fishing. Lake county has done a great job of providing access and continues to upgrade the Lucerne shoreline with parks.

There's a lake we went to as kids with our parents for two weeks every year called Lake Mitchell It had 5 resorts low income families could afford and they could rent boats. As the population expanded the lake shore was consumed and everything went upscale.

Now due to severe insurance restrictions on boats you can no longer rent boats and there are no resorts left open to the public.

From what I've read on the web, Lake County owns and operates the water pollution control plant located off Highway 53 in Clearlake, which was built long before the city of Clearlake was incorporated, so why would the city be financially responsible to update and maintain a system they do not own? Every town and city has problems, but Lake County has been in the news so much lately, not just locally, but nationally and worldwide. The district attorney and sheriff's office seem to be negative news on a weekly basis. And, yes, a natural lake will take it's course, but for the county to not take any kind of action to at least counter the algae problem to some type of degree demonstrates management that takes action after the fact, instead of taking action to minimize the problem to begin with, because as we all know, it is physically impossible to eliminate the algae problem altogether. You would assume a county that relies heavily on summer recreational lake activity and tourism revenue would take steps to deter and minimize the algae problem with all the tools and resources possible. I've been coming to Clear Lake the past six weekends and the green algae has increased every visit. I hope it does not escalate to the same problem as last year.

I wonder how much money we're talking about here. My guess is not enough to even barely finance the "mussel awareness" program. At least it's an attempt!
As far as the algae goes, I believe that the City of Clearlake or County of Lake made several attempts to dissipate the stinky stuff out of Thompson Harbor(Redbud)with fire hoses, log type booms, etc. The crap kept coming back. What the heck would any public agency do anywhere when faced with such a tenacious problem?
One more thing, I think the green algae you're seeing already is the same stuff that's been here forever, and hopefully NOT that stinkin biomass that invaded last year.
Give Lake Co. a break, far from perfect but we do have one of the best bass fisheries in the world, and trying to maintain it!

The county just put in a sewer line that's highly pressurized and over two feet in diameter that runs from Clear Lake Oaks under the bridge at Rodman Slough - you can see it there. About 4-5 years ago. My sewer rate doubled for the next 15 years. It must run 20-30 miles. I bet they are aware of the problems you speak of and are actively working on it. I thought you lived in the county and were making an educated judgment. Lake county has been in national news and world news? Wow, I guess I'm not a couch potato, I didn't know that.

I still haven't heard your solution to the algae problem (actually not an algae problem from what I understand) but several biologists have no cure for it. I know the county has been trying to keep it away from the ramps with limited success by spraying it away. I don't know, maybe we should put poison in the lake? Hire scientists to come up with an algae cure?

Maybe we should tax the residents to death or borrow money and go in the red like the other counties.

Maybe we should just get used to the fact that sometimes Mother Nature, no matter how powerful we think we are, just bends us over and gives it to us and there's nothing we can do.

I hope it doesn't get as bad as it did last year too, but I always found a place to launch and a place to fish.
