The California Department of Fish and Game will be holding two Town Hall meetings, one in Northern and one in Southern California, to allow black bass anglers and tournament sponsors the opportunity to provide comments to the Department’s warm water fisheries managers and biologists regarding black bass fishing and tournament angling in California.

The Department will provide a brief presentation showing the trends in black bass tournament fishing, the special conditions for tournament sponsors, and fish health care concerns at tournament weigh-ins.

The majority of the evening is being set aside to allow black bass anglers and tournament sponsors the opportunity to provide comments and suggestions to the Department personnel responsible of the management of the black bass resources in California.

Meeting dates, times, and locations:

In Northern California the meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 16th at 6:00 pm, at Gone Fishin Marine, 1880 North Lincoln Street, Dixon, CA.

In Southern California the meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 30th at 6:00 pm, at Anglers Marine, 3475 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim, CA.

Kyle,

Please present the following questions to the DFG's managers and biologists at the meeting:

What is the position of the DFG of the impact of tournament or open fishing during the spawn periods??? Has the DFG done a study on the impact to removing the parent fish from the nest??? If there is evidence of a negative impact why are tournaments and open allowed during this time period???

What is the impact of tournaments relocating fish from where they are caught to the ultimate location of their release??? Does this have an impact on their survival rate??? It seems that the fish were located in a certain area based on their needs for food and shelter. Does removing them from this specific location and relocating them to a different area could have an impact on the balance of the fishery relative to the natural food chain???

Does the DFG publish an annual report to the public of the results of their findings relative to the impact of fishing tournaments on the black bass fishery by location??? If so, how is the public made aware of such a report and it's availability??? If there is such a report could it be published on the DFG web site???

Sincerely,

Norval Chan

Guys:

They will cover anything you want to discuss and yes there will be a time limit so nobody gets off on a soap box and kills the entire evening. We are not going to be taking questions on the internet to be asked that night, if you want that question asked then come to the meeting. There are a few of us that have helped Kyle and the entire DFG group put this together and hope to see anyone that has an interest at Gone Fishin Marine on the 16th.

Kent,

For those who have questions, but cannot attend the meeting is there a way to get questions presented to the DFG staff for response at the meeting???
