My heat shrink bait holder keeps sliding down my hooks, driving me crazy. What size heat shrink do you use? Any secrets? Seems simple, but causing me grief

I personally dont use that...just havent gotten to it yet. But if its sliding, I would go with a smaller size, or I would coat the inside with some super glue or something like that.

I'm not sure the size I use, but make sure you heat it up pretty good, and then one small drop of super glue on the top and bottom of the keeper should take care of your problem. Also use the smallest diameter tubing you can get away with...hope it helps

Don’t use heat shrink, use a small Barrel Swivel. Before tying on your hook run the line through one end of the swivel then tie your hook on. Put your bait on up to the eye of the hook. Now run the point of your hook through the other end of the swivel and tighten up to the eye of the hook. Now put the rest of your hook into the bait. This works better with EWG hook!

Thanks for all the responses. Marty, havin a hard time envisioning your suggestion, but I'll give it a try. Where does the barrel swivel end up, inside the head of the plastic bait? It doesn't interfer with getting through the mat does it?

You have to heat it up pretty good till its burnt to the shank. I have never had one slide.
I usually hold it in place with pliers.

Obsessed
This should help - it shows both the barrel swivel and the Parasite.

If you want to use heat shrink tubing, make sure it's the "water tight" tubing. Comes with the inside coated with hot glue.

Nice Marty, but for smaller drop shot type situations that won't work, like I think he's talking about.
I had mine slipping to (think I was getting them from BPS), just fishing roboworms on d/s, so I slid the barb down the shank, added a drop of superglue on the location it would end up and slid it back up over the superglue, works perfect now ie, no slippage what-so-ever.
By the way, that Gorilla super glue comes in a bigger bottle and last a long time.

Any electronic supply store, maybe even home depot and stores like that.
I always ordered from catalogs for work (newark.com, mcmaster.com).

use a snell knot with a few extra wraps, it gives the shrink tube something to bite into. As mentioned above be sure to get the shrink tube with the glue inside, then no super glue is required.

Get it from West Marine. They sell adhesive-lined heat shrink. 3/16" size IIRC. Scroll down the page & check out the 3 pack of 3" tubing. It goes a long way. It is a normal stock item. Walked in & bought it from the store.
