Hey Kevin,
i had a similiar problem last year on my Skeeter. I wasnt sure how to do it, so i took it straight to the shop.

We originally tried using the repair kit to go the less expensive way, but once we tore it open, we realized the cylinder was gouged and needed a full replacement, so i ended up having to buy a full piston anyway.

So, my advice is this:
1) its really not that hard to do, if your a mechanic, or mechanically minded.
2) You really cant tell if the repair kit will work until you tear the broken one apart.
3) if its leaking, then of course you got water in the whole system. be sure to flush it all out.
4) You need that expander wrench to take off the caps on the cylinders, and they are hard to find.
5) Once finished, mark the caps with nail polish (swipe the cap and cylinder) so you can see if they start loosening and re-tighten before they leak.

All in all, its a do-it-yourself job, but for the time and energy, i found it just easier to take it to the shop and have them replace the whole thing. Faster, simpler, and 100% fixed.
