Fished over the weekend on a camping trip and got nothing but dinks.. Far and few in between too. I fished shallow, deep, fast, and slow. Plastices, reaction hard baits senkos etc. Someone tell me what these buggers want?


I could only think of all of the boat traffic over the weekend had an effect.. or maybe the full moon..

Wow, these are the dog days of summer there. With air temps hovering around the century mark, pleasure boaters everywhere. You'd start fishing around 80' then move out over 100' later. There might be a TW bite early, but once that sun hits the water, it's over.

I too fished Oroville this past weekend. This time of year can test your skills, that's for sure. I threw top water baits for the first hour with no results (not even a swirl). I then started backing out and keying on the bait. When you find bait, you find the fish. But, as you said they were pretty small. I then decided to go up the north fork all the way back to the temperature break and rushing water. Water Temp was 10 degrees cooler, so I started throwing my top water baits to shadow areas. Boom.... Bigger fish... Many times they would miss the spook but when I followed it up with a worm, I would catch them. If you want to stay in the main lake area (this time of year) you have to go out 80 feet or so to catch the biger fish.

I wanted to get further back into the lake but my boat is small and not so fast. I would not of had enough fuel to get there and back. I did find a lot of bait around 15-20 ft but all the fish were small.. Thanks for sharing that!

I've only fished oroville 18 days but naci quite a bit. Spots will and can school by size. Ya just gotta keep moving till ya find bigger fish. At least thats what I have found. You can catch them one after the other but they will all be about the same size.
