Hey guys,

I am currently serving in afghanistan and when I get back I am looking to get a couple of really nice setups. I want to get the Dobyns 744 for the 9" worm and the 784 for jigs and c-rig. I fish DVL most of the time. I wanted to pair them with the shimano core 50MG, or should I get the 100MG? Just wanted to get some opinions on that combo because I am not to sure, I just read some good reviews on it. Any other recommendations are welcome. Thanks all

If you can get the 50cores! That's what I use on big worm setup. I've got a d7 chronarch for my crig setup. In the winter months its better to have 7:1 ratio to pick the slack up! JMO

Hey thanks for serving and keeping us safe btw.

So should I look at the D7's for the 784? Would the 784 be a good rod to use for jigs as well as c-rig? Thanks Garrett.

You can actually get the Dobyn's ML Jig rod for all of your applications. Pair that with a core or a chronarch and youre money. A lot of people use that rod for Trig,Crig and of course Jigs. You can use it for spinnerbaits and other stuff as well.

I preffer core 50's because of the weight, but my pockets aren't that deep. hehe. So I have cores and cronarchs. The thing I always look for is 7;1 gear ratio. I'm able to fish slow so its ok. And I fish DV exclusively so I'm usually in 25'+ of water.

Ultimately its up to you and what you like. Most people are different. I like fast retreive speeds and a little more back bone on all my rods. For example my Dshot rod is a medium xtra fast.

How you fish also depends on what kind of action you should get. Example would be if you swing hard when you get a bite then you should get a rod with more flex. I don't swing very hard so I can get away with a stiffer rod. I know poeple that Crig with medium action rods and others that fish with heavy action. Again play around with it, next thing you know you'll have as many rods as me ;)

Haha ya. I understand what your saying. I just want to get quality setups so I wont have to buy a new one in a few years. I want to start tournament fishing when I get my boat so I thought I would start now. I appreciate all the info guys. I think I am gonna get the 744 with the core.

You cant go wrong with the Core I have 5 Core 51's and 3 Aldebaran 51's (the JDM Core) I picked them up before the Core 51's were available. The Daiwa Pixy fishes similar to the Core's as it is small and lightweight too.

I think my favorite is the Core 51 that I dropped ABEC 7 bearings in, very smooth light and the lightweight spool spins forever. I would not count out the new Curado 50's they will probably be pretty hot. If you really want a sweet reel and can afford it the Shimano Metanium DC is awesome. Thanks for your service and come home safe.
