Just curious what pound test some of you use for dropshotting. I mainly fish the delta. I am using it on a spinning reel. Is 8 too big or should I consider using a six. Any brands you prefer over others?
Thanks!

On the Delta and clear lake I have never used anything less than 10lb flurocarbon or 20lb braid. There is just way too much stuff a big fish can bull dog you into with a spinning rod and light line so I beef it up a little because the line is less visible with the dirty water, weeds and other cover.

Any where I fish, other than the ocean, for drop shotting I never go over 6lb. 4lb if I can get away with it. Bill K

On Clearlake I use 10 pound power pro and 10 pound flouro...Here at Casitas it's 10 pound power pro with 8 pound floro. Go big you won't be sorry...
It's a soCal thing that 5lb. and below B.S....Oh that's right I'm in SoCal...

Kelly you are a funny man.
I fish casitas, castaic and cachuma predominently and i usually always use 5lb Maxima ultragreen. I have so much confidence in it that I will throw it at brush and rocks and not be afraid to NOT land a fish. That line is insanely strong!!!
But my second drop shot rod is 20lb powerpro with a 8-10lb leader.

Yozuri hybrid is the best drop shot line made, but it has to be the 6 lb green camo. You get the play of 6lb and the strength of 8 lb. If you catch a huge fish you re gonna have your hands full. The truth is at Clear Lake I have only busted 1 fish off with this line in the last 10 years. Good Luck.

I like good ol Berkley Vanish 6lb. I have landed many quality fish on it and got a 10lb 3oz at lower Castaic this year from shore and it held up well. It was a bit hairball with it being pitch black at night with a new moon and tules 5 yards away.
