Perko Storage Locks Replacements - Re-keyed?

Hey guys,
I need to replace 2 Perko locks, one for the rod locker and the other for a compartment in the rear.
When you get new ones, do you have to take them to a locksmith to get it keyed, if so what are you guys paying for that?
Reason I ask is because if it cost $30- 50/ea for the locks and then another $30 to get rekeyed I need to start thinking about another option.
Another question is can you take the actual lock out and replace the body and D ring?
Thanks,
-Mike

Have your key with you and try to find a perko lock with the same number or a lock you key works on. Believe it or not, my boat is 10 years old and I explored this option a couple years ago, and found out most of the boats within 5 years of my year model had the same EXACT locks on them. Which means my key worked on EVERY boat built within 5 years of when mine was built. The number on the key will match a new Perko lock somewhere...you just have to find the store that has one(or two)

they are easy to rekey yourself. Disassemble and swap the tumblers from the old ones to the new ones. Really easy.

Thanks guys,
That's what I was hoping for because I only need the plastic housing as the D ring broke off at the corner! Sounds like I can just buy a new on and swap out the lock part!
Thanks,
