Outside of lincoln there is a gun range out in the sticks (dirt roads and all) in an area called Spenceville. People blow everything up there, propane tanks, giant pumpkins, tvs, washing machines, cars, etc. its a neat place and its out on a huge piece of land. you dont have to pay or anything, just pull up and shoot!

The place in foresthill is called the stupid spot. google it. Spenceville is behind camp far west, 340 yard range. There is another I go to off highway 50 in sly park behind Jenkins lake. I tend to go up the 50 side. Many areas you can put on all your tactical gear and just go on maneuver's. I am a former Marine sniper, so it's the only place I can shoot beyond 1000 yards. Archery deer up on 50 ends Sunday. Rifle don't start for a few weeks. So there is a brief window to avoid a cowboys and Indians incident.
There is also the sac valley range, but you can't use your AR like you want to there.

Ditto. It's legal to shoot in the National Forest as long as you follow basic common sense rules, i.e. clean up after yourself and stay away from populated areas.

Eric, either the warden was feeding you a line or was talking about one particular area of the national forest. Here's the link saying shooting/plinking is legal in El Dorado national forest:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado/recreation/shooting/
Or perhaps each national forest has different rules.

Get cought with an AR on BLM land .... and you are going to jail and your gun's are gone.
Always know the laws where ever you are in posseion of a firearm - and discharging one at the location you are shooting from.
NFR you are allowed AR's no problem.
There is a nice range off of Morman Imigrant Trail. About 4 miles from Sly Park Res. to Omo Rd. ~ and about another 4 miles headind south on it.

Jeff C. I'm just curious why you would say something to Dobyns about his post being put on the fishing forum not the politics forum.
Not trying to say anything negitive about biteme. He had a good question. I could care less what forum someone post on.
But I didn't see you say anything about biteme post, should be on the off topic forum. Kinda curious what your motive was.
No disrespect

It used to be that possession of ANY assault weapon on public lands managed by BLM was illegal... Here's the current language:
Persons have the permission of the Bureau of Land Management to possess and use firearms, including lawfully registered assault weapons, on BLM-administered public lands, except when prohibited by other applicable laws and regulations.
Here's the link that came from:

That's a fair question, so no disrespect taken. It's because politics is a different breed of topic entirely. Notice on the Dobyns post how it didn't take long before people started slinging names at each other and calling each other out. I used to be a common poster on the Politics forum and frankly I just got tired of the bu11sh!t. I visit the fishing forum to get help and to help my fellow fishermen, not to trade insults with someone who'll never change my mind and will never change his.

It is legal in this state to own a AR or AK almost anything except a 50 cal. There is a way around the dumb laws we have in place in California.
Thanks all that replied. Ive found a few places with the help of you guys. I also think I found a place near Bullards bar. Ill find out tomorrow.
