I went fishing with John Chiarpotti yesterday. He is a guide for those of you who don't know him. For those of you who do know him you already know how knowledgeable he is not only in the diverse array of techniques he has mastered but how great he is in communicating that information to others. John is on the water alot and in tune with the fish, their movements and their current food of choice so he can get you on fish with predictable consistency.

For example, John told me that his first cast with a Zara Spook he would catch a fish. Pretty bold statement but sure enough, we pulled into this cove and near the back of the cove he cast his Spook toward a subtle point and after about 5 twitches of his Dobyns 733c and a 1 1/2 pound spot was on it's way to the boat.

He also makes his own jigs and caught some fish on them too. John is real good at creating color combinations that work great in the mother lode lakes where he usually fishes. His California Reservoir Lures jigs offer different colors that the major manufactures just don't offer. He is a little outside of the box and those subtle differences can get fish when everyone is throwing the traditional stuff. I would give them a try.

So in a nutshell, I went to John Chiarpotti's "School of Bass" yesterday and he schooled me soundly. I have alot to learn and John started the process with a wonderful day on the water where I left with more tools in my bag than when I began the day.

Thanks John!
