Winter Nutcase Rally @ (UPDATE) PERRIS...

UPDATE, looks like Perris is a better choice per following posts.
I talked to Tony S. at Bass-A-Thon and he said he'd come down for a Winter Nutcase rally down south, said to get something going. So, it's now thrown out there. I'm the first one in (usually go to the one up north but not many others down here do, so why not get one going down here so we can meet other nutcases). Of couse, the north can still have a winter one too. This will be the 'southern edition rally' unless there is none up north, then it will just be the regular 'winter rally'.
Just to get things started off right, and get folks in the spirt, I'll donate two $50 reproductions for first place and two $1,000 originals image of choice for second place!
Sunday Jan. 2nd.
Don't know what required to have one on a lake, or if DVL would even be availble, I know Elsinore is close to it and fishes just as well! ;-0

Kirk
PS this is about the only lake i'll not even try to go to for this to far a drive for to many problems

Otay- Did you just say that Elsinore fishes just as well as DVL??? You must be drinking the water in Barstow or something.
If you get one going at a state park with camp sites...........I'm in!

Of course I knew about Elsinore, that's why the face after the comment.
I knew the permit thing would be a hurdle.
The food/beer thing might be handled with that nice lady that owns a tackle shop in the town nearby, letting us have that part there. I'll contact her if we can work out the permit deal at DVL, no sense putting the cart before the horse.
Heck, if we had to have camping nearby, I'd of said the Yuma area of the Colorado River. Lake Mitry, free camping and good fishing. Probably no permit needed, no lauch fee, no fishing permit fee, just about as to fishermen as nice as the norhtern folks have it, huh?

to avoid the motor restrictions and the extremely strict clean and dry policy how about having it at Perris??
Perris fishes better than most lakes around So Cal during the winter.. Lots of nice bags will be weighed.. Also we can BBQ... And the lake is now open after dark for 2 hours if guys want to fish after dark...and the park closes at like 10 pm. No Alcohol is allowed but Im sure the Alkies can refrain from having a beer for one afternoon..at least until they get home..
Just a thought..

That all sounds very fine Pete, thanks. Would we be able to have a tournament w/o a permit?

For sure we won't need an event permit; no money awarded and small turnout. Might need to do an annual but we could swing that easy enough.

We usually don't do raffles and what not; it's more show up and fish a draw or pair up or however you like and bring something to add to the pot luck afterward.
Food is usually better then the fishing at Winter Nutcases,

Buzzkill alert!.....Just a heads up.
**EVENT Type: An Event type permit is required if either the number of
participants exceeds 50 or the total value of prizes and inducements exceeds
$1,000.**
**ANNUAL Type: An Annual type permit may be issued if the number of
participants for each contest does not exceed 50 and the total value of all prizes
or inducements for each contest does not exceed $1,000.**
1. "donating a brand new Lucky Craft rod for the raffle"
2. "I'll donate two $50 reproductions for first place and two $1,000 originals image of choice for second place!"
Sounds like an Event to me....Fortunately, the 2nd of January is WIDE open and I would be more than happy to process your application for any lake in the Riverside/S.Bernardino County with adequate time (not the week before). $53.50 with the application to our Ontario office (it's on our website) lets you play for $$$. Lk Perris will also require there own permit, so check with them also.

Ok, sounds like it's coming together. Thanks Kwin. Looks like Perris it is, how exciting.
I'll downsize the donations from the Michael Seewald Gallery to 6 Seewald reproductions of choice for the top 6 winners.
EDIT: Like the Northern ones, This will be an individual tournament with combined weights for morning and afternoon sections.
Hopefully we can now eliminate, or keep the permit option, simple.
Brain, thanks for your donation, I hope you can make it. I think we can award it to 'big fish'.
Tony, how about the awards, Numbnut, etc.?

I dont think there should be any money payout... I think it should just be a random drawing for any prizes...and maybe top 3..
I also think that whoever puts this together (I nominate you Tony lol) should collect 5-10 bucks per person to pay for the permits..
I think it should be a draw event the morning of, at the ramp... This event shouldnt be about winning money, just bragging rights and maybe some cool donated products... And having a good time..
If guys want a seperate side pot then thats up to them..
Ill be in as a boater depending on the weekend.. If that weekend is available that Qwin said then we should jump on it because he knows when the local tournaments are...
Im sure there can be some really nice products donated to this event...
Pete

I sent Kwin a PM about the permits already.
At the Rally there is never a money payout; this is and always has been for fun and bragging rights only. There have been raffles in the past, so I don't see why not keep that aspect going. The money for the raffle was dontated, I forget to whom. Gator was in charge of that aspect up at Clearlake if I recall. Just as easy to give everyone one ticket for the drawing I'd think.
I like the idea of splitting up the costs for a permit, I'll let everyone know once I get the facts.
It will be a draw event at the ramp. We will have two sections, a morning ( like 7 to 11) and an afternoon with a draw for new partners (1-4 or so). These things are a blast, I've been to quite a few up north.
Happy Thanksgiving all.

Non-boaters are very welcome. Personally, I'll bring mine but prefer to backseat.
It will be a draw event at the ramp, but the weighs are individual.
We will have two sections, a morning (safelight to 11).
BBQ/lunch break/raffle.
Afternoon draw for new back seaters(1-4 or so, with the lake open into dark maybe till 5 or 6?,
to be determined per input).
Awards ceremony.
If you have something you'd like to donate for the raffle let me know, we'll try get you or your product some publicity. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, this is coming together a lot faster than I'd imagined. When I get the permit info, and what, if any charges there might be to cover, we'll have a sign up thread and sticky it to the top.
Again, Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Perfect Todd! Top Nut, Big Nut, Odd Nut and, of course, Numb Nut.
sTony
PS - For those not acquainted with the Nutcases, Top Nut is the all around big limit, Big Nut is for big fish, Odd Nut is largest non-bass weighed in and Numb Nut is for the dufus maneuver of the event, i.e; the guy that falls in, launches without his plug in or some other such catastrophe. I've personally possess two Odd Nut awards and a Numb Nut as well. Cooch has the most Top Nut's but he also has the most Numb Nut awards as well.

Thanks for the info Kwin. I hate when bureaucracy gets in the way of a simple gathering of friends... oh well. Anyway, as a thought.. instead of donating to toys for tots... how about we support the men and women in "green/grey" by participating in the Fish and Game Warden Stamp program.

Generally, we don't collect money at all at Nutcases. There's no cash prize and they're usually only so many that turn out. It's about just getting together, bragging rights and good eating more then anything. I think if you find a club to add a date to their annual permit you'd be covered and it would only cost you say maybe a little help for the club's next raffle or something like that. Just a thought. Even if you did get a permit, the cost per angler would be far less then $20 a head. The permit cost is less the $60. That is unless only two or three guys showed up.
Are there any other, non-DFG, permits required for Perris?

By the way, Kwin did get back to me, some info was:
"...I would call the Perris main office, explain that there will be a "tournament" on such & such day understanding a need for a state parks permit. (It's ususally so they can account for parking/launching issues that may arise with the reduced launching facilities, but early January should not be an issue in my opinion). They should be of more help to you then.
Our DFG permit requirement is to ensure that anyone catching/possessing then releasing fish in relation to an organized function are taking care of them. This is especially important in the winter when most of the fish are caught in deeper water and will likely require extra care upon ther release. There are conditions that go along with any organized tournament which are sent out with our permit and I cannot send out those conditions without recieving a permit application. ..."

Talked to a lady in the parks department, they said if we are not charging entry fees, nor giving cash awards, then they would not require a permit.
They said I'd have to check with DFG to see if they would require one, if so they might too!!!? Otherwise permit's are $35 for up to 25 participants, then jumps to $100 for 26-100 folks.
Plus a $25 administration fee.
Kinda going in circles, hope to resolve it soon, another call out to Kwin.

We don't need "official" prizes.

If some one hands out some stuff @ the end to a friend or 2 thouse arn't "prizes" The "nutcases are more about seeing your buds and braging / rubing rights

Not sure where I will be come the 2nd of Jan... I am vacation and not sure exactly where I will be at that time. Then again, I told myself the last time I fished Perris, if I ever fished there again, it would be too soon!!
Just an FYI...
These are supposed to be impromptu events, not "well organized" full-fledged tournament type events. It is just supposed to be a social gathering of us forum Nutcases to meet, fish a little and grub down and just plain have a good time where a few peeps get to walk away with bragging rights until the next Nutcase happens
These gatherings are not the same as the Western Rally and Nutcase Classic that was held at Clear Lake. That I believe was a full fledged permitted event because of the numbers that attended and very well planned and organized.
Bottom line... These are just supposed to be fun gatherings/BS sessions for simple bragging rights
