What kind of fish is this?

I went out to San Luis today with my Dad to try to get into some stipers. Well the striper bite was slow but my Dad caught this on a Fluke. I think it's a crappie but I have never seen one with markings like that. Its mouth was not paper thin and it did have teeth. To me it looked like a cross between a bass and a crappie. I've been fishing for over 30 years and have never seen a fish like this. Just wanted to get you take on it.

Thanks,
Scott Povio

According to photos and information in the California Finfish and Shellfish Identification book put out by the CA DFG, that is indeed a Sacramento Perch.

Yeah, the water comes from the delta so whatever the delta has its in San Luis. The stripers population is huge though which I think holds the bass population down. Plus it gets really windy which keeps a lot of people off the big lake.

NO there are no largemouth there. Don't bother making the trip. Probably be windy anyway!!!! Only stipers.
